Doubtful. With grim power situation with no solution in the near future in TN will the Mahindra plug in to TN?

Mr.Ranga,

Please post both positive and negative about any topic.

If you post only negative side, then you will face with lots of counter criticisms.

For your kind info, during the last year, no industry has really left TN or decided not come to TN just because of the power situation.

I work with many investors and still TN is rated at the top as ideal destination for many sectors.

The reality is that most of the other states are worse in one way or other in their assessment.

Except the Petro / Gas related industries, all others are showing interest.

And with some sort of solution in sight for KKNP + wind energy from May/June, the current scenario is temporary...and hopefully the valliyur, North madras and Mettur power plants will come on stream as per schedule...

'Chennai can emerge as auto hub'

Quote:
Chennai can emerge as the automotive research and development (R&D) hub, considering it is the house for global and domestic automotive majors, said R Chidambaram, principal scientific adviser to the Government of India.

In his inaugural address at the fourth edition of the Conference on ‘Automotive R&D Trends 2015’, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, he said Chennai had automotive industry-led research institutions like Ashok Leyland and Nissan Research joint venture; Mahindra Research Valley; research teams of Hyundai & Renault and academia like IIT Madras, IIT Research Park, Anna University and Madras Institute of Technology, to carry out R&D on proprietary or generic automotive technologies.

The focus should be on areas like materials, energy efficiency, emission control, driver assistance, safety, embedded systems and creation of a disposal chain.

He said the Ministry of Heavy Industry and the automobile industry had set up a demo centre for automobile recycling at GARC (Global Automotive Research Centre), Oragadam, here. The industry has donated a large number of cars and two-wheelers to kick-start the centre. “Effective recycling could generate two million tonnes of steel, 150,000 tn of aluminum and 75,000 tn of rubber and plastics by 2020 and the figure would increase by 10 per cent a year hereafter,” he said.

V Sumantran, conference chairman and executive vice chairman, Hinduja Automotive Ltd, said, “there were many trends that lead us to believe that we can no longer address automotive technologies in the context of passenger cars alone.”

Royal Enfield Motorcycles to increase production and launch Thunderbird 500 and Cafe Racer 500 in India

http://www.rushlane.com/royal-enfiel...d-1230184.html

Quote:
Royal Enfield has announced that their new Thunderbird 500 will be launched during May-June 2012. The motorcycle which enthused audience at the Delhi Auto Show in January this year is about to make its grand entry and will be powered by a UCE500 engine with fuel injected twin spark 500cc offering 27.2 Bhp power and 41.3 Nm of torque. Its engine will have a five speed gearbox with maintenance free hydraulic tappets. All this will come at a price of Rs.2 lakhs. Fitted with a projector headlamp, rear disc brake, 20 liter fuel tank and a flatter handle bar it will make an ideal bike for cross country travel.

Cafe Racer 500 is expected by early 2013 and was also on display at the Delhi Auto Show 2012 and from the number of inquiries it looks like biking enthusiasts just cannot wait for official launch. Production should be up 90,000 units per annum by end of this year while monthly production should be at 8,500 from their present 7,000 units per month.

Royal Enfield has also plans in place to increase production at their plant based in Chennai unit at Oragadam. Present production capacity of 80,000 will increase to 1.8 lakhs which will bring down waiting periods drastically. One only hopes that the company concentrates equally on quality as they are on quantity.

I live in Nebraska in US. The other day when I was waiting to pickup my kid from art class I saw a parent reading a manual for bike and the word Royal Enfield caught my eye. I enquired about where he bought the bike and if he liked it. He said, those are cheap (price wise), hardly needs maintenance and runs like a charm, very good bike. Made me feel proud.

Engg materials, auto industries centre to come up in Chennai

ASM International (formerly American Society for Metals), a premier professional society of matallurgists, materials, scientists and technologists, is planning to set up a research centre for engineering materials and automobile industries here in Chennai, said Prof. Christopher Berndt, President, ASM International. In partnership with the industry and higher technical institutions, the centre will undertake research in the field of metals, alloys and materials and failure analysis. “The entire research will be industry oriented,” he said. Mr Berndt, who was in town recently to take part in the Silver Jubilee celebrations of body's Chennai Chapter, said the global focus has turned to India for sourcing sophisticated and intricate castings and cast components and electronic materials for various industries including automobile, aeronautics and other engineering applications.

Skilled labour

Attributing this to the “vast pool of skilled and semi-skilled manpower and superior technology that are available here,” he said ASM will henceforth focus more on promoting the latest technological developments amongst its members and industry using the network of ASM International and its work on development of materials and material science.
