I prefer narrower waterways - this is in my own opinion ofcourse - to wider ones such as Portsmouth Harbour, the Thames or the Mersey. Bristol has one of the best collections of inner city buildings along its waterways and it is always full of a lively array of boats of different shapes, sizes and eras. With the architecture, al-fresco dining and bars and closed in but very leafy feel it is evocative of Amsterdam at points.

Certainly makes a lot of places look fragmented, sterile and largely devoid of footfall in comparison. A real community feel.

Bristols waterfront is best in a small section only, most of the waterfront is quite devoid of life from my extensive experiance of the city. The city is making large strides twoards making it more accesible and usable but it is far from the best IMO. For me it has two sections, a small part around the dock where there is some bars but very little interaction with the water, and then the windswept areas that while plesent have nothing to entice you there (other than the great western) and are simply walkways next to offices or apartments.

Not really, its a fact about bristols waterfront, go there and see for yourself. I have nothing to be inferior about, especially when it comes to britsol as the cities are both very different. I'm not saying Cardiff has the best, but Bristol defiantely doesnt.

The red area is reather run down dockside with ugly warehouses. nothing really to go there for except the extortionately priced great western ship

the two yellow areas are modern and rather bland for the most part, office and apartment areas. nothing to make you want to go there.

the green area is the only real place i would say is nice, but then it comes off a rather awkward square and has little interaction with the waterfront

the blue area is architecturally very interesting but the buildings go right up to the water and there is no use for them, most look like they need a bit of TLC and they are only visable from a few bridges

the brown area is a park that is quite dismal and is high up on a bank with no access near the water.

I really struggle to see how someone could think it was best in the whole of the country, and to argue inferiority is a VERY poor argument lol
