Leeds Rhinos 2009 Season.

Well I know that the first game for the Rhinos is in February (Friday 6th v Celtic Crusaders) and that It is on Skysports2 and SkysportsHD2. But two days ago the Team Jetted off to their training camp in Florida, so I thought It would be a food time to start the 2009 thread now instead of starting it for the former.

Not long to go before Super League kicks off, here's hoping for 3 in a row!

One thing that is concerning me about the Rhinos is the centres. I was assuming that we'd sign a Toopi replacement but that hasn't happened. I know that Lee Smith has been given the number 3 shirt but surely he isn't going to play there? Will Carl Ablett continue as a makeshift centre? Is the expectation that Kallum Watkins will make the breakthrough? Does the lack of cover mean we are screwed if Senior gets injured or struggles for form?

I've got to admit I'd rather have seen us sign a class centre than Buderus. Inglis or Falou in a dream world!

well, Arguably you could say we have the best Rhinos team ever for 2009! We still have most of our top players (Excluding Ellis) and we have brought in two of the worlds best players.

If we win it one more year we will have been the first team to win Super League twice in a row. and if we win the World Club Challenge we will be the first team to be World Champions for two years back to back! We have the capability to do it but something tells me teams are going to make it harder than ever for us!

Look at our recent record:
2004: Super League Champions
2005: World Champions
2007: Super League Champions
2008: World Champions and Super League Champions
2009: (The Chance to become World Champions)

PS. If the Rumours are true Donald Trump wants to add a RL team to his empire. now wouldn't it be nice if that was Leeds Rhinos. (Although It will probably be an Australian team). I know we have a salary cap and everything but Imagen the ground redevelopment! and Imagen Trump visiting Leeds, perhaps he would start a small venture here!

You've not answered my question about the centres Matt, I will be demanding an answer from you on Saturday!

Looking forward to having a good old chat with you about all things Rhinos related.

Politics? Good heavens no, far more pressing than that.

My question was about the lack of strength in depth in the Centres. Read post number 2 you lazy young pup you!

I think we should have gone for another Centre not Buderus, Diskin had a good season at hooker I thought.

I think as good as Buderus is, there is no way Diskin should have been moved for him!

Absolutely, but you see Diskin play a full 80 minutes, and at times last sseason he was making a few fumbles and not orchestrating the ball plays as well as he should.

Buderus will give the opportunity for a specialist changeover.

The centre issue is clearly a stand out issue,Toopi should have been replaced.

Perhaps Hetherington has some irons in the fire for next season,a bit of a coup perhaps?

Got my tickets already. I'm usually stranded on planet Coventry at this time of year so this is my first Rhinos game since the Challenge Cup Final of 2005.

As a member of Yorkshire Cricket Club, it seems I can get a free ticket to a Rhino's match. May have to take advantage of that offer!

After last nights defeat by Saints it was evident how much these teams hate each other, some of them tackles in the second half were brutal. It'll be the Rhinos chance to get revenge in the cup and after last night I wont be surprised if there are a few sent off. They're so well matched though and I probably see the next game going the way of Leeds,I'd like to be proved wrong though.

Well and truly proved wrong thankfully.

I thought Saints were much the better side again today although points wise it was close.Leeds have a habit of coming back late and making the scoreline look respectable like they did with Manly Sea Eagles but we bossed the game today I thought.Still we're now going for four in a row,it's ours to lose now, come on you Saints!

I agree that Saints where the better side today, however Bethem did not help Leeds one bit. But you must agree that Leeds have a habit of wining games too!
We are the Super League Champions Two years in a row! Good Luck to the Scouse for the Challenge Cup but as I said on rlfans and to all my family before the game I would rather have 4 games off and win the super league than play all the CC games and not win the Super league 3times in a row! I want to be the super league champions 3 years in the row and be the first ever team to do so!

Winning's great however you do it or whatever you win.Saints annoyingly have a habit of finishing top of the table and then losing to Leeds lately and I think last year really hurt them.I for one never really saw them losing the Grand Final last year, most people probably never and I think Saints believed the hype and lost as a result of that. This year I'm happy too see Leeds finish top as long as we get the big one.One thing's for sure, there's not much between them and Leeds are still the team to beat.I also had visions of you racing down the field and stealing it at the last today, the threats always there,I was glad when the game ended tbh.
