still it would be nice if for once the original more interesting project happened because at the moment it feels like every stadium that is different from the others ends up not happening and its becoming frustrating in 10 years time europe might be full of stadiums all loking exactly the same

I prefer old version (more individual and characteristic) but it's better to wait for better vizualizations of new version.

They should have included at least one larger tier as a cheering section. Other than that its a good design.

Very nice looking arena. Congrats Stockholm, this'll surely beat the other ones in the Nordics.

There are now doubts about the financing of this stadium...

Regarding SwedBank Arena, can anyone summarize this article in English please?
The key point is, did it mention when the construction will start and complete?

==============================================================

2008-12-17 | Tillbaka

It will be larger than the current size of Field's (not sure if it will be larger than Emporia in Malmö though), but Field's have expansion plans that will make it even larger iirc.

Anyway back to topic.

Well, it is too large for domestic use, and too small for international use. It will not be possible to play the CL final there, and I am sure the EURO final will require 60000 seats.

The biggest thing is though it will be built with substantial tax payers money, with the state pouring in money via AB Jernhusen, the monopoly company that owns more or less all railway stations in Sweden.

I have to admit, the capacity of Swedbank Arena is a bit odd. Since 50.000 is way too large for any 'normal' event in Sweden anyway, they might as well make it 65.000-70.000 in order for it to be able to serve as CL final venue or as a worthy UEFA EC main venue.

It is not yet known. Some basic facts are available here: http://nationalarenan.se/swedbank_arena_kortfakta.php

Yes, 65-70000 would be more sound. I am afraid this project will be as "successful" as the Globe arena, which is almost always empty. The reason is politicians playing with tax payers money, heavily cheered on by the banks wating to issue bonds, construction companies and its affiliated labor union. Staten och kapitalet, you know

I don't think it would be smart to make a stadium 50 or maybe 100 Mio. € more expensive just for the eventuality of a skandinavian EC and the option to host maybe one out of ten CL finals.

If some say that the stadium is already too big the way it is planned now (which I totally believe for domestic league football and where I wouldn't agree when it's about the national team), why should they make it even bigger and more expensive?

Anyone realized that this thread started more than three jears ago? Since then, they postponed and changed this project several times - and why? Mainly for finacial reasons!! And now you think it's something like a white elephant because it is too small?

Let's build it like that, let's apply for the final of the UEFA Europa League every year, let's hope that it sees a capaticy crowd at least three-four times a year when the national team or the domestic cup final comes by. And let's hope that there are some concerts too big for globen that justify the enormous costs for this retractable roof.

Exactly, but why make the capacity 50.000 then? Everything above 40-45.000 is way too large for Sweden in any case. They're already wasting hundreds of millions of SEK to make it 50.000 which is a completely unjustifiable capacity for this stadium. If they're going to waste money, they might as well make it 60-70.000 instead.
