Isn't this new stadium supposed to be built in Stockholm?
What's the difference between Stockholm and Solna? |

The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm and is totally within the Stockholm urban area. 0% of the area is considered rural, which is unusual for Swedish municipalities, which normally are of mixed rural/urban character. Solna is the third smallest municipality in Sweden in terms of area. Solna borders to Stockholm Municipality to the south, southeast and northwest; to Sundbyberg Municipality to the west; to Sollentuna Municipality to the north; and finally to Danderyd Municipality to the northeast. /wiki |

No, it's not under construction. They planned to start building it at June 5th with Swedish football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic there to "put glamour" to the project. But that never happened and now it's status quo and has been at 18% progress for a long time now.
The Swedish premier league team AIK which should be the one who play there most of the time, is looking for the opportunity to buy their current home ground Råsunda (cap 34 000). Which they will renovate to fit their desire of seize and they also want to get all the money from restaurants and merchandise on their matches. Which the Swedish FA not let them get on Swedbank Arena The problem for AIK is that it’s the Swedish FA who own Råsunda and they will of course rather see that AIK play on Swedbank Arena. They even got out to the media and said that they have sold Råsunda and the ground around it to PEAB a big real-estate developer and that PEAB will build apartments there Råsunda now is located. That proved to be false… So right now it’s all status quo. Sorry for my english

At 11am, they will do a ceremonial first dig with the crown princess in attendance. Don't count on the project to be completed though, there are still a lot of concerns. The thing needs a tenant other than the national team.

I don't understand why AIK refuse to be the tenant... Nothing could be better. This state-of-the-art 50K football specific stadium is the best homeground they can get considering the club's finance. Other clubs can't even dream of such a nice stadium as this.

They would not own their own events. That means that money for things sold in the stadium during games, food and drink for example, would not go to AIK. Other teams in Sweden like Malmö FF, Elfsborg and Kalmar own their stadiums and get 100% of the revenues. Swedbank Arena will be a world class arena, but it is not going to be a good deal for AIK. |

Its ugly too... And the stadium itself can't have any CL/WC/euro finals either... so? Imo its throwing money in the sea. |

Also, what are the criteria for hosting Europa league and Champions league finals? EDIT: It does look like Swedbank can host Europa League finals. Last edited by NesC; December 7th, 2009 at 05:32 PM. |
