do you think city councils will smarten up and get things done quicker now?

reading thorugh various threads about how developments are now being cancelled due to the times and economy but had city councils not taken so long to discuss them or approve them they would have either been built alrady completed or in the process of costruction...

do you think city councils will try to be more timely and get the projects approved faster instead of delaying things to the point where the developer just walks away? because its just adding to the costs etc.

It never gets faster, only slower. Chances are they'll spend a few million to form a "committee" for overseeing the process to make sure projects get approved faster... and wind up getting in the way, lol.

No, I don't think they've learned the lesson and they will continue making the same stupid mistake.

Most developers don't have a problem with the current process, only the fly by night ones. Sure there are improvements to be made and some streamlining of things that should be able to happen concurrently to shave a little time off. But for the most part the system works and the level of viligence in the system ensures that garbage products are limited and don't come to fruitation. If you made it too easy you'd flood the market with inferior products and acutally hurt the whole industry.

The city of Vancouver is world renowned for it's planning dept, I think most people here are being way too critical.
