This time I'd like to show a completely different side of Vienna: the neighborhoods outside the Gürtel (beltway) up into the hills of the Wiener Wald.

The northern neighborhoods also offer some of the best vantage points for skyline photos:

Unfortunately, as I was ascending Leopoldsberg - seconds after I took the previous photo - the rain began to pour down and I was too scared for my camera to take any more photos.

Only a 15min. train ride from bustling Schwedenplatz, Wien Heiligenstadt feels like a different world. Beethoven spent his summers here and visitors are often reminded of the great composer by street names and signs pointing out places he used to frequent.

I'm quite surprised to see such widespread use of concrete roads!

Great shots though, Vienna is certainly a very beautiful place.

Hm. You mean in picture #5 or #7? I think it's just old asphalt that looks like concrete, imho. It would be surprising indeed, if they were using concrete on a very quiet residential street that probably doesn't see a lot of traffic.

Still within the city limits, the 19th district takes on a rural character:

On the sidewalk of the road to Klosterneuburg (B14?) at the exit Heiligenst.St. and the beginning of the divided highway towards Nordbrücke.
Walking between that point and Kahlenbergerdorf wasn't a very pleasant experience. A very narrow sidewalk and cars whizzing by a high speeds... you do the math.
(but for that shot it was worth it)

Yes! I'm thinking about going there too. Maybe by car.

I don't think there's any on-street parking in that area. Either way you'd end up walking there.

Unless your car happens to "break down" at the right moment for the duration of a quick snap.
