No market for them? You have to be kidding. Bang in the middle of London in, and next to another, iconic skyscraper.. people with money will be fighting to get into these flats!!! _ i would if I had a few spare pounds!!

Typical NIMBY reaction -
http://www.london-se1.co.uk/forum/read/1/101078/page=2 "Oh for F**** sake! This is what I was afraid of. One stupid great tower gets permission and now they think "Lets squash everything and make loads of money with lots more stupid great towers." I hope the whole ruddy lot of them go bust." |

Whats up with the 'current economic climate' argument? What makes people think this will be going up tomorrow? It's not even proposed yet
![]() This will be like 100 Bishopsgate, or the Can of Ham, a development for the next cycle. I mean it will have to be, what with all the legal wranglings, opposition, heritage bodies ad down-scalings it will have to face. We'll probably be into the NEXT recession by the time this breaks ground!

The people who criticize these skyscrapers have absolutely no idea. They obviously just seem to think they are only built for money, maybe to a certain extent, but take the Shard for example, its so much more than making some money, and it's more than just a skyscraper.
Either way, we'll have the last laugh as the NIMBY's aren't going to stop London's skyscraper boom and future development. |

![]() Can you genuinely not see why people would be opposed to the building of a skyscraper? I can certainly see their point of view, doesn't mean I agree with them but it is damned dangerous to take the naive tall = good mentality that a number of people on these forums have and not to be able to see things from different perspectives. |

I agree. My first reaction to the diagram is ugh - the design looks awful to me, wherever it was built. But it would be doubly unfortunate to be so close to the Shard.

I also don't take to the diagram very much, but I hope that's just a cartoon impression and that the real thing doesn't look so disjointed.
Really looking forward to seeing some plans or renders! |

To be blunt the more challenging and interesting a design a building has the less chance it has of being built in London. We can count ourselves exceptionally lucky when the shard is up. London does not welcome brave architecture. Add to that that most people in the UK just don't like tall buildings, regardless of the design, and the chances of this being built at the hieght proposed are slim. Sorry to be so pessimistic, maybe I'm having a bad day, but I'm bored of getting excited about buildings that never materialise!

Peter Bill's column in the Standard has Zandra Rhodes describing them as "faceted" towers, and they are by H&M so I expect something pretty exciting. According to the article we don't have long to wait as Stellar will reveal the designs "next month".

I read it as well. It appears the site incorporates the railway arches. Looks like this will be a long saga to keep people occupied this year. |

That's the chap! Cheers mate! ![]() It is indeed a lovely building and the fact that it hasn't been converted yet despite demand for such character properties around the Bermondsey Street area has always confused me. It is for this reason that I fear Sellar are looking to demolish it. |

at the risk of heresy ... i don't think one old warehouse should stop a project of this ambition. Could always take it down and rebuild it somewhere else.

I really do like the results from the other warehouses around London Bridge that have been converted; the one whose name I forget next to More London as a fine example. But we'll wait and see...
