European City Compilation (16 cities in 38 pictures)

Here a thread that show you all European cities that i vistited the last years. I show you both well-known cities like Paris, London or Barcelona, but also a lot of more unkown cities like Maastricht, Guildford, Liege or Eindhoven. The most pictures i made with a camera, a few i made with my mobile or through the window of a train. The quality can depend. The pictures are not always representive for the city, it just let you see a little part of the city. Don't expect only touristical pictures, some pictures let you see the uglie sides of a city, but also a lot of beautifull places. Because it's a compilation i post max. 4 pictures for 1 city. I hope you enjoy!

Lyon (France)

1.

(Near) the city center.

2.

3.

The highest skyscraper of Lyon, the tower of Credit Lyonais.

4.

From the highway Lyon looks not so beautifull, so i was surprised the city-center was very nice.

Aachen (Germany)

5.

Boring architecture near the Elisenbrunnen (City-center).

6.

Aachen is famous because of the Dom church.

Sittard (Holland)

7.

The Market Square of Sittard, my hometown.

8.

View to the Petrus church.

London (U.K)

9.

Southwark, a not very well known neighbourhood for the most tourist, but i liked it.

10.

The Docklands, the highrise district of London.

11.

Near Leicester Square.

12.

The Thames witth the St-Paul Cathedral.

Antwerpen (Belgium)

13.

The Astridplein, near the Central Station.

14.

Hard to believe, but in this area are very many diamond shops! this is next to the Central Station.

15.

But Antwerpen is the most famous because of the beautifull, historic city-center. Here the Market square.

Rotterdam (Holland)

16.

Rotterdam, the city with (one of) the biggest ports of the world and a real skyline. This is the Kop van Zuid, an old harbour area with lots of new buildings.

17.

18.

Noordereiland, this is a island that lay in the river the Maas.

19.

The port in the distance.

Frejus (France)

20.

The city center of Frejus, a little city in the Cote d'Azur (French Rivera).

Cannes (France)

21.

World famous because of the movie festival, but i was waiting here when i must change of trains. This is next to the train station.

Koln (Germany)

22.

The Central Station.

23.

The Dom church, this church have the highest church towers of the world.

Gent (Belgium)

24.

The Central Station...

25.

But with a very nice city center, with many canals, churches and old houses.

26.

Monaco/ Monte Carlo (France)

27.

The hills are very steep and there is very little ground where you can build. That's i think the main reason for the many highrises.

28.

Monaco (Cote d'Azur/ French Rivera) is famous because of the Casino and the jetset. Here some really big yachts.

Utrecht (Holland)

29.

The highest church tower of Holland, the Dom tower is 112 meters high.

30.

The Oude gracht, one of the canals in the city-center.

Heerlen (Holland)

31.

Heerlen, a former coalmine city in the deep south of Holland. Here 3 pictures of the suburbs. i have'nt pictures of the city-center.

32.

The Akerstraat have a bad name because of the drugsdealing...

33.

Avignon (France)

34.

The Saone of the Rhone (very confusing) and the city center with many old buildings.

35.

Maastricht (Holland)

36.

37.

The Wyckerbrugstraat, this street connect the city center witch teh central station. Maastricht has some French and Belgium influences. Maastricht claims to be the oldest city of Holland, some buidlings in the city center are approx. 1000 years old. Unfortunatly i have'nt pictures of the old city-center.

38.

New appartments and offices near the Central Station.

In part 2 you see Marseille, Dusseldorf, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussel and more...

Thanks for the pictures. I'm curious which cities will be presented in the second part.

Small correction: The church towers of Cologne Cathedral are not the highest in the world. The Tower of Ulm Cathedral is higher (161,53 m).

Very nice. But the Monegasque won't be pleased if you place them in France.

Interesting. After seeing those socialist blocks in Lyon it made me realize that high rises should never be built wide. When a building over 10 stories or more wider than it is tall it looks ugly and depressing. The narrower and taller the building the sexier.

@Philadweller
I agree, a highise must be more tall than wide.

@KK
