St-John's (and area), Newfoundland, Canada

I go to St-John's every few months (26 times in the past 8 years) to see family and I finally decided to create a thread showcasing some sites and such. I only had a couple of hours to take the following pictures because I had to catch a flight back to Mississauga.

That's it for now...

Nice pictures. For those of you who don't know St John's is the second snowiest city in Canada

Very beautiful!

St John's looks like a nice place and there are quite a few architectural surprises.

You did an amazing job in only two hours, and covered a lot of ground! I love those salt-box houses like in the third photo. That cartoon thing was a bit unsettling, however... do they really flush sewage right into the harbour with no treatment?

Probably! Halifax does that. It's hard to believe how antiquated so much of our infrastructure.

Thx everybody.

Unfortunately they do (or at least they did), I was quite surprised.

What a shame. That has always been Victoria's dirty little secret on the other side of the continent. Finally I think they are planning for some kind of sewage treatment after a century of flushing it directly into the Strait.

You should have a good time. A lot of things to do and see. Being that I enjoy the outdoors, I like Newfoundland for the scuba diving, kayaking (a few years back I went kayaking with the whales and, of all things, with the Puffins at a place nick-named Bird Island - it was a surreal experience to say the least), exploring nature parks and motorcycling; the Irish Loop was most enjoyable.

Nice pictures. You did a good job of showing different aspects of the city. St. John's itself looks great.

Looks like an interesting place to visit. I'm so disappointed I missed my opportunity to go there in October 2005. I had my hotel reservations in place, but when I went to book my flight with my frequent flyer miles, the airline had bumped up the number of miles needed to fly there. Just a week earlier I had enough miles to go, but I was short when they upped the number. So I had to cancel my trip.

Thanks for the great photo tour! I think this may very well be the best I've seen of St. John's.

This place fascinates me, I'd love to visit in the winter to experience the isolation there!

P.S. $93,000,000 to clean up the harbour?? It must be in a hell of a state!
