Hines is developing MainPlace, a signature 46-story office tower located in downtown Houston at 811 Main Street. Slated to receive LEED Silver Pre-certification, MainPlace will contain approximately one million rentable square feet. Designed by the nationally recognized architectural firm of Pickard Chilton, MainPlace will be clad in horizontal sunshades of glass and aluminum that will wrap around the building’s curved north and south façades. A signature feature of MainPlace will be a dramatic 39th floor sky garden recessed into the building’s form that reveals planted terraces and a five-story crystalline atrium. Vertical transportation will be provided by 18 high-speed elevators, and three elevators servicing the nine-level parking garage, which will contain 1,130 parking spaces and also have retail. Construction activities, by the general contractor, D.E. Harvey Builders, will commence immediately with the first tenants occupying the building in early 2011.

One of these pictures is/was my desktop background picture. I love this building. I can't tell from the pictures but do you think the parking is hidden from the street view?

Sorry, I answered my own question with a little research. The architect firm's website is really cool. You can see how they use similar modern influences throughout their projects.

Check it.

Nice idea to have some sort of garden with those trees in the tower.

Very disappointing news about this project;

The upper floor garden will be for tenant use only and the public will only be allowed in the lobby. One more example of the the rich having special privileges. At least we still have the Chase and Wells Fargo observation floors for now.

Huh? It's an office tower, not a pedestrian plaza.
How many companies allow the general public to wander through their offices and use their facilities?

In response to Zollern

In Houston there are two larger commercial office towers that allow visitors to enjoy the sites of the city. In my opinion the open air atrium is a waste if only the tenants of that floor can enjoy the view. I would happily pay admission to take my family to enjoy an outside view of Houston from that floor.
