Are there any plans for any airlines to fly their A380s in? Wasn't Lufthansa the last carrier to introduce A380 service? Are there plans for Singapore Airlines to buy any more A380s?

AirFrance will be flying in their A380s soon, not daily though.

So whereabouts will the new T4 be located? Will it be served by the MRT or a people mover...?

Will it be south of the current 3 terminals?

Nope, they have just invited various architecture firms for the design.

Well, it would be located south of Terminal 2, at the present Budget Terminal. As for connection, it is not known what it is going to be like. Like I said, the design is sill not done yet.

Incheon Airport named World's Best for 7th year
(Chosun Ilbo, May 25)

Quote:
Incheon International Airport was named the world's best airport for the seventh year running on Thursday at an event attended by around 500 guests in Singapore. The Airports Council International, an organization of around 1,700 airports around the world, announces its Airport Service Quality ranking every year.

"Incheon International Airport now faces new challenges," ACI secretary general Angela Gittens told the Chosun Ilbo before the award ceremony. It scored 4.95 out of five points, but competition is intensifying, she said, as rivals benchmark its achievements.

Singapore's Changi Airport came second with 4.86 points, while Beijing Capital International Airport overtook Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok International Airport for the first time to take third place. Beijing Capital ranked fourth last year with 4.67 points, but scored 4.82 points this year. In 2008, it expanded its passenger terminal to handle 82 million visitors a year. Incheon can handle 44 million visitors a year.

Incheon also faces increasing opposition from European airports. "This year may be the last time we award the best airport prize," Gittens said.

The ACI's Asia-Pacific board of directors decided at a meeting on Wednesday to stop awarding the overall prize next year because European airports complained that Incheon dominates it even though there are many outstanding airports in the EU. But ACI will continue to award prizes according to region and airport scale.

Singapore's Changi invests in Russian airports via JV
(The Malaysian Insider, June 22)

Quote:
SINGAPORE, June 22 — Singapore’s Changi Airport said today it has teamed up with Russia’s Sberbank and Basic Element Group to invest in Russian airports.

Russian tycoon Oleg Deripaska’s Basic Element will hold 50 per cent plus one share in the venture. Changi Airport unit Changi Airports International will take 30 per cent, while JSC Sberbank will hold 20 per cent minus one share.

Basic Element will contribute to the joint venture shares of the airports in the Krasnodar region including airports of Sochi, Krasnodar, Anapa and Gelendzhik. The total value of the assets exceeds US$500 million (RM1.5 billion), Changi said in a statement.

Basic Element is one of Russia’s largest business groups whose interests include energy, manufacturing, financial services and construction.

Sberbank is Russia’s largest bank, while Changi operates Singapore’s main airport and has stakes in various airports around the world including Italy’s Aeroporti di Roma. — Reuters

Changi Airport Terminal 1 completes S$500m facelift
By Dylan Loh | Posted: 12 July 2012 1549 hrs

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Changi Airport has completed a S$500 million facelift of its oldest terminal.

Some 22,000 square metres of floor space have been added to Terminal 1 and the number of shops and eateries has also increased to 110 from about 85 outlets.

There's also an outdoor garden for nature lovers.

Other changes include the merging of separate immigration channels into a centralised area and the expansion of the view gallery.

Changi Airport Group's senior vice president for airport operations, Mr Yeo Kia Thye said: "In the past, there were two separate immigration halls and each had nine counters. So it meant that you had to wait a bit longer time. By merging them into one single immigration hall, you have 18 counters. Simple mathematics will tell you that it will be faster and smoother for the passenger."

Upgrading works at the terminal began in 2008 and with the makeover fully completed, Changi Airport now plans to introduce wider automation across its terminals.

While details are still being worked out, mechanised check-ins, bag drops and flight boardings to help travellers save time are currently on the cards.

The airport is also moving to reduce manpower needs as it strives to provide passengers with the best facilities.

Singapore to decide on third runway by year end
By Hetty Musfirah | Posted: 17 July 2012 1925 hrs

SINGAPORE: Singapore will decide by the end of this year when to open a third runway at Changi Airport for civil aviation use.

And given the strong growth potential, it may open two to three years ahead of Hong Kong's third runway, which is scheduled for 2023.

The chairman of Changi 2036 Steering Committee Josephine Teo revealed this during an update on the committee's work.

More airport terminals may spring from a 1,000-hectare piece of land in Changi.

The committee has been visiting other emerging and top aviation hubs to keep a close watch on the competition.

Its top of the agenda is to cater for future growth early.

Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo said: "All the airports that we are looking at that are already about the same capacity as us, they are planning for passenger handling capacity for 100 million and beyond.

"Most of them are already thinking beyond two runways.

"Hong Kong has set in motion plans for third runway; Incheon already has three.

"This is really in response to how they are looking at the growth potential for aviation, civil aviation. It reaffirmed our assessment that the growth potential is a very healthy one."

So the committee is now finalising plans to open a third runway for Changi Airport.

The runway is currently only used by the military.

And it'll need to be extended to accommodate all aircrafts, before it can also be opened for commercial use.

Mrs Teo said: "Runways like all these airport infrastructure generally (require) fairly long lead times. Just an indication, for Hong Kong, they are looking at 2023. For us, we have a distinct advantage. It's not that we don't have a runway three. We will definitely be able to do it, two to three years faster than them, mainly because we don't need to reclaim."

The committee is also exploring how to develop a 1,000-hectare piece of land between runway two and the future runway three.

This includes a part of Changi Coast Road.

Mrs Teo said: "Keeping the road there is an option, expunging the road and making it just completely part of the airport parameter is also an option. So we have to study both options, we have to look at the pros and cons. That's why the Land Transport Authority's involvement is very critical."

The area may also site future terminals, a second and new control tower and facilities that complement the air hub.

Part of the committee's job is to decide when we would need a fifth terminal or for that matter, to explore a fifth terminal or a fifth and sixth terminal.

What configuration it ought to be, so that is part of the master planning. Both in terms of timeline and ideal configuration.

By 2017, when the new Terminal 4 is completed, Changi Airport will be able to handle 85 million passengers a year, compared to the current 73 million.
