I believe it's not designed to handle mainly that , only the medium range like the A320 and B777

According the link posted above some serious ground pre is going on.

Five to six years is a long time.

No Terminal 4 will not be able to handle the A380. Terminal 4 is going to be used by low cost carriers and carriers with a smaller schedule size than the rest of the carriers. i.e. some European carriers and carriers from the Americans and Africa. All A380 ops will continue from Terminal 1,2 and 3.

Well, that's not really correct. The only LCC that has announced their shift to the terminal is the Air Asia Group (Air Asia, Indonesia Air Asia and Thai Airways). I can't really say 'only' because they have a quite large operation at Changi. But none of the Singapore-based LCC are likely to move to T4. Scoot and Tigerair already said they are not interested as the terminal is not so well connected with the rest of the airport, they have a lot of connecting traffic though. Jetstar is likely to have the same opinion (for the same reason).

The other airlines that have confirmed their shift to T4 are asian flag carriers with quite some large operation at Changi too: Cathay Pacific, Vietnam Airlines and Korean Air. (Source: ChannelNewsAsia)

It will definitely not have a380 gates but for sure it will not be solely for low-cost carriers and small operators. What is also sure is that there will be a lot of narrow body operators at T4 as there will be 17 narrow body gates and only 4 wide body gates.

Somehow I feel the terminal design is "inspired" by HKG

Honestly it looks more like Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.

Except they stuck the check-in/immigration/baggage-claim area on the "wrong" end of the terminal, heh.

I've also always felt that DOH reminds me of HKG.

Its a backwards DOH and HKG is what it reminds me of. Airport designers have no imagination now a days. They just keep coping everyone else.

Its not easy to design airport. It has to be futuristic looking with good layout plan to increase efficiency

Well, both the original HKG layout and DOH were designed by the same firm - HOK (large US-based architecture and design company).
http://www.hok.com/design/type/aviation-transportation/
(The HOK layout design was the compulsory basis for the architectural competition that Foster and Partners won.) With HKG being so well-received HOK perhaps saw no need to significantly alter the terminal shape when drawing up the plans for DOH.

The Hong-Kong based consultancy OTC drew up two suggestions for terminal layouts for Changi T5 in 2013, which both looked like only-slightly-altered HKG terminals.
http://otcpd.com/filter/singapore/Si...Use-Study-2013
What the photographed model shows is the "Changified" (= planned in Singapore) further development of these two suggestions.

That's how they are all connected, if not exactly copied.
