However the u/c T4 will be enough to handle passenger for the next 10 years.

Also airports like KL, BKK and JKT are vying for the same competitors. In fact increasing competition from region that makes business difficult for changi in future
Southeast Asia has lost the Europe - Australia business, and SIN and KUL are losing the Australia - North Asia routes, period.

But what's changing is the dynamics of intra-ASEAN, intra-Asia routes - that is growing to no end. Singapore - Kuala Lumpur, Singapore - Jakarta are among the top 5 most-travelled international routes today, what's going to happen tomorrow? Out of Singapore, every major Asian city gets several upgauges in aircraft and/or additions in daily frequencies every year by the respective full-service and low-cost airlines. Even Air France is doing 2 daily SIN-CDG!

Growth, by market and/or route, may look small, but when spread across so many routes to/from Asia, T4 and now even T5 suddenly looks ill-equipped to handle the future traffic.

I find it fascinating that full service airlines are continually deploying larger aircraft on the same routes within Asia than the LCCs, with the exception of AirAsiaX on routes to Japan/Korea.
Example: HKG/SIN is served by CX and SQ on widebodies multiple times daily, and Jetstar (HKexpress, perhaps, too?) inserts a few A320 on the route.

Even with Scoot upgauging to 787s, mothership SQ still deploys the larger frames.

How will LCCs, even when growing continuously, capture significant market share with these small capacities?
(In Europe and North America, legacies and LCCs compete with similar-sized aircraft and chiefly on price and frequency - maybe the ASEAN/wider Asia market will go down a different path?)

Be that as it may, I believe that a consequent continuation of rearranging the aircraft parking stands/gate sizes/airbridges at T123 to better reflect the evolving aircraft mix narrowbody/widebody can absorb the changing market realities for some time to come - without having to accelerate bringing T5 online, unless SQ wants all its operations under one roof and away from the LCCs.

@Mith the new nonstop flight with United between San Francisco and Singapore will replace the current one-stop service between Singapore and Tokyo/Narita. It will be operated daily on board the airline's newest Boeing 787-9, and it will the airline's longest nonstop service (also the longest of any American carrier, at 8,446 miles).

Schedule:

UA001 SFO2325 – 0645+2SIN 789 D
UA002 SIN0845 – 0915SFO 789 D

UA001 will begin service 1 June 2016, and the first return flight will leave SIN on the 3rd. What's intriguing is that it will provide leverage for competition from SQ's twice-daily (one-stop each) service on board B777-300ER (one via Seoul, the other via Hong Kong).

I find it very amusing for UA to use the flight number UA1 and UA2, just like SQ does for their flight in this route (via HKG one).
