An awesome city considering that this is built under continuous permafrost. In fact, this is the largest city in the world built in continuous permafrost.

Eastern Siberia can be compared to the Canadian Prairies, where temperatures go extreme in both places.

It gets warm in summer reaching 35C. But during winter, it gets down to -60C, with no windchill. So, this city is quite unstable in terms of permafrost melting. But overall, it's good!

beautiful city! what a stark contrast between summer and winter! it does remind me of places here in the U.S. like North Dakota where it can be 40C in the summer and -35C in the winter

Brrrrr...

Interesting place though - is the Yakut traditional way of life still preserved there, or is it more Russianized?

they are pretty much "Russianized", but they still keep their language (though all of them speak russian) and some traditions. Most of native language schools are subsidized from federal budget.
