hkskyline's 2008 - TAIPEI #10 : City Sights & Views

The signs on this gate stirred a lot of controversy when they were changed to the present 'Liberty Square'. On the day of my visit, the area was far more tranquil.

This area in the heart of the city is a huge square, with the memorial to Chiang Kai-Shek in the distance.

Cultural facilities line both sides of this quadrant.

Actually, I think this place also changed names as well. It's now the "National Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall".

I took a walk around the neighborhood to see a mix of Chinese style, colonial Japanese style, and even Western style buildings.

One of the weirder spots I visited came out of the tourist book I bought once I reached Taipei. It suggested this place called Fuzhoushan Park which had commanding views of the city. To get there, I had to walk quite a long way from the train station.

Quite a lot of grit in Taipei.

Then the climb began ...

The guidebook only gave a very small picture of what was in store. So far, it looks quite good and promising.

There we go! As I trekked further up, the stairs got more treacherous. There was a warning sign. Renovation was in-progress ...

The view is very good. It was high enough to sweep pretty much all of Taipei from Shin Kong to 101!
