La Mesa Dam Ecopark

I just came from my first visit to La Mesa Dam Ecopark joining a group of birdwatchers and I have to say, I love this place! The atmosphere changes as soon as you cross the wooden bridge entrance. Different birds chirping, the air suddenly smells fresher and feels cooler...and the I just love watching the different trees and plants. Amazing! We should have more parks like this in the Metro.

I just used my phone cam sorry.

Compostela Valley Province
White Peak also known as Mt. Pandadagsaan
Andap, New Bataan

White Peak is locally known as Mt. Pandadagsaan which in Mandaya term means "to gather together". The Mandaya tribe considered this place as sacred as this is where they conduct their rituals asking for blessings, bountiful harvest and celebrate thanksgiving. The mountaineers labeled this as WHITE PEAK due to its crystal-like twin mountains when hit by the sun- you will see an all white-towering mountain from below. It is the 3rd highest mountain in Mindanao rising 8,878 ft. above sea level. With its height, you will see mossy forests with wild berries, bonsai plants and super cold temperature which ranges from 3-1 degrees centigrade even up to the point of below zero. This mountain is considered the most technical climb than Mt. Apo, thus 1st timer-climbers are not allowed for safety purposes.Indeed, you will experience an avatar-like journey! Only in Andap, New Bataan.

A cloud forest, also called a fog forest, is a generally tropical or subtropical evergreen montane moist forest characterized by a persistent, frequent or seasonal low-level cloud cover, usually at the canopy level. Cloud forests often exhibit an abundance of mosses covering the ground and vegetation, in which case they are also referred to as mossy forests. Mossy forests usually develop on the saddles of mountains, where moisture introduced by settling clouds is more effectively retained.

In comparison with lower tropical moist forests, cloud forests show a reduced tree stature combined with increased stem density and generally the lower diversity of woody plants. Trees in these regions are generally shorter and more heavily stemmed than in lower altitude forests in the same regions, often with gnarled trunks and branches, forming dense, compact crowns. Their leaves become smaller, thicker and harder with increasing altitude. The high moisture promotes the development of a high biomass and biodiversity of epiphyte, particularly bryophytes, lichens, ferns (including filmy ferns), bromeliads and orchids. The number of endemic plants can be very high.

The forest is also home to “pitcher” plants or scientifically known as “Nephentes”. They are carnivorous plants with a liquid filled deep cavity called “pitfall traps” which attract small insects that drown in it. The plant then feeds from the insect that has dissolved in the liquid that contains enzymes secreted by the plant itself. Besides this rather interesting plant, a variety of other strange plants (some poisonous) and medicinal herbs can also be found here.

Mosses are small, soft plants that are typically 1–10 cm (0.4–4 in) tall, though some species are much larger. They commonly grow close together in clumps or mats in damp or shady locations. They do not have flowers or seeds, and their simple leaves cover the thin wiry stems. At certain times mosses produce spore capsules which may appear as beak-like capsules borne aloft on thin stalks. There are approximately 12,000 species of moss classified in the Bryophyta.[2] The division Bryophyta formerly included not only mosses, but also liverworts and hornworts. These other two groups of bryophytes now are often placed in their own divisions

Nothin to be sorry about. Even the phone cam couldnt obscure the grandeur of the place. Oh wow, it seems like somewhere in the countryside of France. Beautiful.

Superb. Spectacular beyond words. Simply magical, I must say...
