That's an advertisement for Pyeonghwa Motors, a company owned by Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, which operates a car assembly plant in Nampo in a joint venture with a North Korean state-owned company. They assemble various models imported in kit form, mostly from China. The particular model on the billboard "is the Pyonghwa Premio CUV which is in fact the Huanghai (Shuguan) Landscape (Qisheng CUV) DD6480".

It's thought that Pyeonghwa only sells a few hundred cars a year at most. The only potential customers are probably government departments and state-owned companies, foreign diplomats and NGOs, and élite officials who have earned plenty of money by fair means or foul.

I'm so impressed! This country keeps staying in my mind, I always think about it. The cities look just like many Russian and Ukrainian (where I am from)

But the communist regime failed in 1991 in our countries, still you can find a lot of common features in design, architecture and style.
I can only imagine the life of all these poor people. It was never that hard for Ukraine and Russia under Soviet gouvernment!

Quite interesting thread and totally rare pics I think given the north korean sentiments of outside world. Hope they will be in their senses to open up for their future.

North Korea is nothing like these of rural areas of China, in fact North Korea look more cleaner and better off than many rural parts of China.

Some buildings may resemble some Eastern European cities because of communist soviet era influence.

Back in 1960s, North Korea was better developed than South Korea. Now North Korea is still frozen in 1970s.

Btw, with regards to Pyeonghwa Motors; it's true that it's jointly owned by Sun Myung Moon, but major assembly lines were originally engineered by Hyundai group when Hyundai's CEO Chung Ju-yung was alive.

Hyundai have a lot of assets in North Korea.

Are the Norks allowed to access the Internet? The obvious answer is NO.
So, he is not from NK for sure.
KJI is so insecure about their commie system that they have banned the Internet access by average people. That is the face of the evil regime.

Many families in South Korea have roots in the North and many of the pre-war generation in the South were actually born in the North. Including members of my family.

Also, many Koreans in Japan identify themselves with North Korea. For instance, Jung Taesae, striker for the NK soccer team. Born in Nagoya, plays for Kawasaki (and is probably the best striker in Japan), member of the NK national team.

Perhaps Koreansentry works for Hyundai Asan, which runs the Kumgangsan resort and the Kaesong industrial zone.

I'm not North Korean but my dad was North Korean.
I have entire dad's side of family in North Korea.

5million North Koreans fled to South during Korean war and still separated from their siblings at North. Me and my dad visited Kumgangsan resort two years ago, we also met couple of survived family members at Pyongyang.

I at times wonder why Koreans are so divisive within and without.
Is holding onto their false ideology so important that they have to starve the people by millions and keep families seperated for decades? When I think about NK regime, I get filled with so much sadness and fury thinking that they could not be this stupid.

Informative pictures. If they start a war against the South, they know it will be their last day. They will think about it twice. The biggest issue with NK is their starving soldiers. Even the South surrender to them, they will still lose.
Why? The dear leader just can't repress democratic South Koreans at all.

I don't think so. Well, I mean not until they have enough nukes. And seeing how there's no sign of the regime change, North Korea will eventually have a large arsenal of nuclear weapons (even if they gradually switch to capitalism but remain totalitarian). However, only South Koreans should be concerned about this because world revolution is not on the agenda in NK - the Juche idea is for ethnic Koreans only.

Back in 1950, NK was able to attack SK because SK wasn't even have decent army on standby, this time it's SK on the hill top.
