They forgot some ornaments too when they restored the building. The original building seems to have a tile roof, guess it's because of lack of money that they didn't restore that. On the other hand, it has just been restored, we should probably give it time to "age".

Another survivor: the Handelshochschule (1930), now Kaliningrad Polytechnic. Nice Bauhaus building:

Now:

Somebody please tell those Russians that green is not the proper colour for this building

And which looting soldier took the sculpture with him?

Bauhaus. Looks like any sort of postwar school you can find in Germany.

Hehe, I know you don't like it, but I'm quite fond of it actually. Though it loses its charm pretty fast if not maintained properly or restored in a orderly fashion.

edit: or did you mean it's not really Bauhaus? I know, but the designation "modernist" is far too broad in this sense.

Great photos! I LOVE the churches there in Königsberg! I'm happy to see so many survived.

Interburg/Chernyakhovsk then and now

Chernyakhovsk is the third city of the Kaliningrad Oblast (after Kaliningrad/Königsberg itself and Sovetsk/Tilsit), with a population of 44,323 people.

Used to be a splendid city, but not anymore.
To me it looks like one of those provincial cities of soviet russia style.
Even the survived churches look very separate from the Kaliningrad architecture.
But then, you can not blame current russians living there for this mess...
