I know this is not in central Manchester, but has anyone noticed the new road leading fron the Trafford Centre car park area on to the M60. If your driving say from Salford to Stretford you notice it anti-clockwise. It has white lines in the middle and double yellow lines on the sides. It also has a a side reservation on the M60, which is new aswell. So anyone seen or know what it is for?.

Not sure from your description if its the exact place your thinking about but their building a new M60 junction for Salford Reds stadium and to relieve congestion on the existing Trafford Centre junction with a road running alongside the M60 to Trafford Centre.

Thanks Andy.
Intresting info and I would like to know the costs certain type of infrastructures. For example the article talks of 290M for 10km of dualcarriageway, about the same costs calculated for a motorway (2+2 lanes) in southern Italy. Anybody knows how much would cost a simple "roundabout" in the UK?? I was shocked when I read that build a roundabout in Sicily will cost € 600.000.

Will anything ever come of the 'M60/M62 relief Motorway'? I always thought it would be better to make it into an express-local motorway like the 401 in Toronto for the northern side of the M60

doubt it - I think that plan has been long dead - there's another in the Highways Agency list for adding extra lanes around there but that's it - see http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/roa...5-12-Lane-Gain

Work set to start on Hyde's sausage link road
12th December 2012 Share:By Chris Barry - Editor, North West CONSTRUCTION work is about to start on a £3.2m road in Tameside, which should help generate 300 jobs. The half-mile public highway in Godley Hill, Hyde, Tameside, Greater Manchester, will begin at Mottram Road (A57) and end at the new employment site near the Walls sausage factory. The project is being funded by £2.1m from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund and £1.1m from Tameside Council. It is being built on land owned by Walls' parent company, Irish group Kerry Foods (formerly Mattessons & Walls), and transferred to the council. The road will open up new employment opportunities on council-owned land which has been designated as an employment site for more than 30 years. It will improve access to the adjacent Kerry Foods’ complex, where over 600 people are employed. Most of the employment site is currently used for low-grade agricultural purposes. Previous attempts at developing the seven-hectare site failed due to problems with access. Tameside Council executive leader Cllr Kieran Quinn said: “After years of planning and negotiation we are finally in a position where the funding is available and we can start to develop this site to create much-needed employment opportunities for Tameside’s residents. “This road is a win-win for the council and its partners. Not only will Kerry Foods have improved access, we have the chance to develop a site capable of delivering a significant number of new jobs, to provide improved access for residents who live near-by, and to further support economic and employment growth in the borough.” The work is being undertaken by the council’s direct service organisation and is expected to be completed by autumn 2013.

Dont believe so though cuts to bin collection could be affecting driver availability. Wigan at least invested in a big silo for grit two years ago at the highways depot so that it could stockpile during the summer which it will be moving to the new central council depot.
(lot of councils had the problem that they couldnt stockpile so they were stuck in a delivery backlog when the winter months came and every council was trying to get more at the same time) |
