Vancouver through my lens

Seeing that I take lots of pictures and sometimes post them, I though I might as well keep it organized in one thread.

Here are some pictures of False Creek and the surrounding areas. The pictures are mostly of the Southern Part of the Downtown peninsula, which is bordered by False Creek.

FYI, 99% of these buildings are condo's.
The below were taken yesterday. Enjoy!

Some photos I took today from Queen Elizabeth Park. I did not go inside the conservatory, which has a variety of plants from various parts of the world...along with birds and fish.

These first pictures are of the newly opened 2010 Olympic Curling Centre. It was recently opened and will be turned into a giant recreation centre after the Olympics (pools, library, community centre, etc). It is located right on the edge of the park.

Now pictures from the actual park. The park is actually a mountain of sorts, and provides excellent views of Downtown Vancouver and other areas.

Great pictures!
There are few cities which enjoy as fine a natural setting as Vancouver.
Add to that, the city has really done a great job in filling in with all the hi-rise condos over the last decade or two.

Thanks folks. Got some more pictures today

Starting off going down Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver.

Then, I took the Seabus to North Vancouver

Then, I took the Seabus back to Vancouver and took a walk around the new Convention Centre being built. It will host the media for the 2010 Olympics

Lions Gate bridge:

Then, I took the Skytrain to Main Street/Science World station located right beside the Olympic Village...and took a stroll to Cambie Bridge.

Sorry for the number of bird shots, anybody know what type of bird this is below?

Nice, great shots. I just believe that Vancouver's skyline could have been a little more thought out.

How so?
Vancouver has VERY strict (and I mean OCD strict) requirements before allowing any building to be built. It includes the look, colour, height, location and how it impacts view cones and many other factors. I believe it takes at least a couple of years just to get a design approved, with most projects getting rejected at the first attempt unless it is a generic glass condo. So I don't see how it could have been any more thought out unless the city told developers what to build and where to build it giving them no choice in the matter.

i'm guessing that was sarcasm? Vancouver's skyline is more thought out than virtually any other city.

WOW! Amazing pictures! But at the same time they make me feel rather nostalgic, you don't know how much I miss this city, riding the SkyTrain every morning, strolling through Stanley Park and English Bay, walking around downtown, damn, I love Vancouver! I'd do anything to go back there!
