Tufts-
i lived in that area of the city for 10 years and had relatively few problems. every city has its problems and wb is no different. the particular facility you are looking at is amazing and im sure will include great security. there are certain sections of the city where the crime is concentrated (north and northwest). |

geppapa,
Many thanks for your thoughts. It's a toughy. The problems in WPB are perfectly understandable for a city of its size. The question for someone like me is why buy a condo in WPB instead of, say, Naples? Crime is definitely a factor. The thought of having a Riviera Beach several miles away isn't all that pleasant. Additional comments are more than welcome as I consider becoming part of the WPB community! |

The thought of having Riviera Beach several miles away may not be that pleasant, but how about the thought of having Singer Island several miles away? Or having Worth Avenue several minutes away? The bluest water in Florida is probably in Palm Beach County, dont know if you like beaches but its true, most of the rest of Florida has an emerald color instead of blue. Really everything East of I-95 in Palm Beach is very nice and alot of the time everything west is kinda bland.
You should check out West Palm and Naples, I lived in West Palm almost my whole life and now I’m prolly movin to Naples, and I already love Naples. Its beaches are some of the top ranked in the US, its sandwiched between Marco Island and Sanibel Island, the crime rate is much lower than other parts of Florida, its not as developed or populated but still has a very clean charming downtown, its very rich, also very expensive. Though Downtown WPB is pretty expensive too so you might be able to find a deal in Naples for just as good. I know this isnt a Naples thread but there are tons of different beautiful places in Florida, its almost overwhelming. Definitely research what you want from a city, then find out where you can find that.

tufts -
like i said, wpb has crime, but it is isolated. as for naples, remember that it is a very small town with ALOT of retirees, a ton, of retirees. look a the average age compared to pb county. wpb is a lively city with a lot of upside. i really like naples, but it is one of the most expensive town to live in. i know there is alot of growth control within the city as well. you really cant compare the 2 cities. wpb metro 1.25 mill, naples 300k. |

Really the only thing that’s way more expensive in Naples is the Housing, its prolly some of the most expensive housing in Florida, but if you plan on renting its fairly cheap. I’ve found some 3 bed 2 bath for just over 800 a month there, which seems pretty good. But your right, you have to consider that something like 90% of the population is over 40 in Naples. And WPB may not compare to places like Miami or Fort Laud with Nightlife, but I always found Clematis and City Place pretty nice.

The site across from city plaza II has a crane now and the first floor of whatever building is going up there is well underway.

I took a few pictures when I was downtown yesterday from about 6-8pm. It was good to see that there where lots of people out and about on both Clematis and CityPlace.

I've always wondered what those apartments over OSheas were like. I tend to hang mostly on the 500 block. It's the seedier end of Clematis, but I think it has the most character between OSheas and Respectables. It's a shame Ray's closed down. Sharky's used to be great too. They finally took the boards off the windows there so maybe someone is finally going to fix that spot up.
The new building looks to be a combo office/storefront/parking garage. I don't really know though. It's going up really fast. I took the pic from the corner of Banyan and Quadrille. |

So funny cause when I was back there a couple weeks ago I noticed them. I remember we used to hang out on that porch/deck upstairs back when the yard was a dirt paking lot. I remember drinking quarts of Mickeys/800 back there like 11 years ago haha |

anyone know about "the modern" possibly being built on the 1515 flagler building lot?
city planners are pissing and moaning about this possibilty. why? from the pb post today: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/localne...2708condo.html |

The Modern, according to the article will be 10 feet to the south of my house and I do not want that. Developers will probably want to demolish the other condos in the area to build new more modern projects on the water since waterfront land downtown is not easy to come by. I guess I don't really have to care anymore since everyone in my family including myself is moving out of West Palm in the next couple years/months.
I think the two city plaza buildings are way too close to each other. In the future traffic there will be a nightmare after the city grows even more. |
