The areas in which pwright was walking definitely are, those are some expensive views! Seattle has its middle and lower class areas but seemingly little for a city its size.

Great job again pwright

Yeah there are really only a few pockets that are "poor" areas the rest is really quite expensive. A lot of wealthy people reside in and around Seattle, especially on the eastside.

Great photos!

Anything with a water view is generally pricey.

Bellevue has really grown itself a nice little skyline.

Rivals a lot of small stand alone cities.

I always wondered why Seattle has such little poverty. There are no ghettoes and no areas that should really be avoided. Boston too is like this. What is the secret?

Seattle architecture looks very midwestern like Minneapolis or Chicago.

Sure we have poverty, just not much of the high-density close-in type. It's gradually moving to the near-southern suburbs, even while the same places are generally revitalizing in some ways, and building town centers. But there's still quite a bit in-town, primarily in the southern half, which also gets less development. Of course the hillsides and waterfronts along the east and west edges of town have combined water-mountain views (Puget Sound + Olympics or Lake Washington + Cascades), and are therefore absent of poor people with few exceptions.

Poverty often means new housing. We've been rebuilding our "projects", which tended to be very low density, like 6 units per acre, with new mixed-income neighborhoods that tend to be about 10 units per acre. Related to this, Seattle has a $16,000,000 annual voter-approved levy to support low-income housing; much of this goes to a handful of non-profits, who tend to build denser housing (usually apartment buildings, often 6 stories) that blends well and improves neighborhoods -- LIHI, PHG, HRG, etc.

That's a city I'm really looking forward to visit - such a beautiful setting and great towers too!
