I think a small part of the KdF complex in Prora, rügen was/is actually used as a Youth Hostel, though.

Buffalo Bills is a truly hideous thing to look at as you drive by it.

As far as service in these monsters I've stayed at the MGM Grand before and had no complaints about it. My dad's stayed in Wynn's and praised it's service too.

Now what is the largest hotel in Sao Paulo Brazil by number of rooms? There has got to be a larger hotel than the Sao Paulo Hilton (which has 485 rooms).

In Singapore:

MARINA BAY SANDS(2561 rooms)
Another interesting fact about Marina Bay Sands is that it is the most expensive hotel ever built. Surpassing The Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

The Memphis Marriott Downtown is the largest hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. Originally opening in 1985 with 400 rooms, 200 rooms were added in 2004. Future plans involve the addition of 150 rooms, making the total number 750.

well, i really didn't expect to see memphis hit this list, because, in the over view, it doesn't have a hotel of 1000-1200 rooms under one roof, and for a city its size, you would think that memphis would have larger hotels than its southern metro area, which houses all of the casinos---the 32 story MGM, sam's casino, and one or two more w/ rooms of a 1000 down to 800. in all, there are 10 casinos.

a study 6 or 7 years back indicated that memphis was in need of 1200 hotel rooms downtown, and that was at the time the recommendation was made. even though the marriott is proposing to add 160 rooms to the convention center hotel, the total number of rooms in the hotel falls well under 800. the proposed 1 beale luxury hotel is on hold, but i think it is going to have 600 rooms. the new courtyard marriott, which was opened a bit over a year ago, is an 8 story full service hotel, but i think it only has about 130 rooms.

currently, the luxury hotel for the downtown hilton has been approved, and it will house 300 rooms, at 11 stories. the hyatt is renovating a 21 story holiday inn, which will be a mid-line hotel for hyatt in the downtown medical center. i think, as of early last year, there were 32 or 33 proposed hotels in memphis proper, but none are over or near 1000 rooms. the indigo downtown is practically ready to open, but i don't know what has held this project up so long. to think that memphis was the birthplace of the holiday inns corporation. the % of available rooms is about 17% over the last two years. the lack of large hotels is hurting the tourist industry downtown, and causing memphis to loose large conventions of 30-40 thousand visitors. currently, the bass pro shop is getting ready to build a 7 story hotel next to the 32 story pyramid, which will be the new mega bass pro. go figure!

one comment about the singapore hotel. i saw the national geographic special on the construction of that building, which was very interesting, as it explained what had to be done to balance correctly the horizontal top, which stretches across the three towers. imo, it looks as if the qe 2 beached on top. i know it must be a beautiful view from the top, but design and general look of it is unsettling to the eye.

I think the largest in Madrid is this 70's beauty, with 916 rooms: Hotel Meliá Castilla.

i think that hotel ukraine is beautiful, and i am surprised that some of the st. petersburg, russia hotels haven't been posted up. one of my favorites posted, which kind of reminds me of hotel Coronado in san dieago, is the hotel that is spread out over the hilly landscape, orange-brown masonry or brick and the red roof tiles. beautiful.

are the fairmont hotels a chain? i have stayed several times in the fairmont in nola, and i noticed two or three in other cities, i also love montreal, but it seems to get little attention on this forum or others.
