Very optimistic and speculative. These things never go as people predict. Remember that South Africa was meant to land 2006, but they failed. And Paris 2012 was a certainty according to most. And Chicago 2016 thought they had enough votes promised to get them through the first voting round. Look how that turned out.

Technically Russia is not part of Asia when it comes to Fifa so they will vote for themselves in 2018, 2022 however they will choose one of the several countries that are aiming for 2022 (Qatar, Australia, USA, SK and Japan)

RobH, I agree to disagree with you aswell.

Lula pledges Brazil's support to Qatar 2022 World Cup bid

May 15 - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (pictured) today pledged his country's support to Qatar's bid to host the 2022 World Cup.

Lula, recently ranked as one of the most influential leaders in the world by Time magazine, offered his backing to the bid during a visit to Doha, where he signed a number of agreements with Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.

The bilateral agreements included one on cooperation in sports between the Governments of both countries, a major boost to Qatar as Brazil is set to host the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics and Paralympics in 2016.

Lula then publicly showed his support for Qatar's bid when he addressed the Qatari-Brazilian Business Forum at Doha's Four Seasons Hotel.

He told an audience, which included Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani: "There could be cultural and other differences but our common passion for soccer unites us and we are only too happy to announce Brazil’s support to Qatar in its earnest bid for hosting 2022 FIFA World Cup."

Lula has been actively trying to cultivate links between Brazil and Arab countries for several years and there has been a 150 per cent increase his country’s businesses with the Arab countries in the last few years, he claimed.

He said: "This came since Brazil took the lead to host the maiden Latin American–Arab Summit [in 2005] and the trade between the regions now stand at more than $20 billion (£13.7 billion)."

In the last five years Brazil's trade with Qatar has increased by 1,221 per cent to reach a total of $501 million (£344 million), Lula revealed.

If Qatar were awarded the World Cup in 2022, then Brazilian companies would hope to profit from lucrative contracts, Lula admitted.

He said: "Some of our construction firms are widely acknowledged all over the world and they are interested in undertaking major challenges in this region, including in Qatar."

^

"The Executive Committee consists of a President, elected by the Congress in the year following a FIFA World Cup, eight vice-presidents and 15 members, appointed by the confederations and associations. It meets at least twice a year, with the mandate for each member lasting four years, and its role includes determining the dates, locations and format of tournaments, appointing FIFA delegates to the IFAB and electing and dismissing the General Secretary on the proposal of the FIFA President."

Members may change in June. Don't get to cocky.

Also, why would Turkey and Eygpt vote for Qatar? Wouldn't that damage their chance in the future? Surely a WC bid from Turkey is not to far away.

Also... can remember where I found this:

When you realise Doha is one sixth the size of London in terms of population and Qatar's league attracts on averge less than 8000 spectators per match, you start to see the gaping hole in the middle of this bid. You simply can't hold the majority of a world cup in one city, especially if that city is as small as Doha, has little footballing heritage, and if the bid threatens to leave behind a swathe white elephants afterwards

Solopop, we love our country, we study every single move they take, and we know their initiatives.
You think the decision to make this bid was made so easily ? do you not know that the study of hosting the Olympics and World cup has started years ago ? we just needed some steps to take such as...

Asian Cup 1988, U-20 World Cup 1995, Gulf Cup 2004, West Asian Games 2005 and Asian Games 2006.

And in the near future Asian Cup 2011, Arab Games 2011.

And the Bids, Doha 2020 Olympics and Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Other stuff: Qatar Open, Sony Ericsson Womens championships, Sony Ericsson championships, Ladies ITF tournament, Qatar Golf Masters, MotoGP. ETC.

South Africa 2010 invested 1.5 billion in stadiums and Qatar will spend 4.5 billion on stadiums only coz it will be stylish and airconditioned eco-friendly using carbon technology for first time.

because Qatar has worked for many years to strengthen their relationship with these countries who will vote for Qatar and keep in your mind Qatar was planing since very long years to join this bid and their seat in Fifa part of long years work.
