that show you dont know any thing about football if you think football history is only ( qualify to world cup ) then you should know Qatar was almost 1 step from qualify to world cup 3 times.

1990
1998 ( after lost last match from Saudia 0:1) then saudi qaulified
2010 ( afte Australia become in our group )

Qatar football team qualified to Olympic Games many times
Qatar footbal team won Gold Medal in Asian Games 2006

Qatar football team won 2 times GCC CUP.

Qatar won 2nd position in U20 World Cup 1981 in Australia
( till todays there no asian team scored this position other than Japan 1999)

when such history come from tiny country that mean a major victory for them speically the history was recoreded many times that Qatar was beating big teams such as Japan , South Korea with results like 0:5 & 0:7 etc before these teams spend billions to develope the football in their countries in last 10 years and of course no compare in size or population

Qatar has strong League and always it is clubs in finals in All Asian Champions include this year 2010 which Al-garrafa club in the finals for this year.

Qatar will host next year AFC 2011 cup and has big chance to won AFC Cup next year on it is land and between it is fans.

Thats not a big football history. And don't say 'but we're a small country'. There are plenty of countries with more history that are smaller. You didn't get that close in qualifying for 2010. You were 3rd or 4th in a qualifying group in Asia, not that close.

we are tiny country everyone says this and we are not shame of this we are proud to achieve great achievements we still holding the Golden Asian Medal in Great victory over Asia.

there many large countries in world with (( Millions )) of population and long history in football they didnt did even half our history and there also strong countreis in football they qualified to the World Cup a few times too only and many of them never win the worldcup and take this cup as example we saw two strong countries play on finals both of them never won the world cup and it was first time for spain and still there many other example like portagal with it is strong history it is never won world cup and for such strong team it is realy shame they qualified 5 few times include 2010 while country such south koread we was beating them in past with results such (0:5) , (0,7) they qualified more than 8 times

that mean world cup qualifing isn't all football history there many other championships and other considerations are calculated for each team.

and we belive that thing isnt important and not gauge or we was attach our region history in Qatar File which include many qualifing to worldcup and with good results in worldcup but we only showed how people in this region love football and hopes to host the World Cup for first time.

Trinidad and Tobago is smaller but they've made the World Cup. Slovenia is another small country and they've made the World Cup twice. Jamaica's made a World Cup as well.

lol these countries not in Asia and they are bigger than us but we take our hat off for them becouse they are nations such as ours ambitious and we will support anyone one of them if they bid to host world cup in future in their continent.

but in Asia there no smaller country have history better than us or victories more than our national team and of course there no smaller country biding to host world cup in Asia other than us.

Barely any country in Asia has any soccer history. South Korea does, but that's about it. It's the fourth best continent in terms of soccer.

Mate, come on, bar Europe and South America, CONCACAF, AFC and CAF are hard to split. Mexico may have a famous football fan culture but for the last 15 years on the field the best of those 3 confederations can beat each other. The US has no more soccer history than Australia, we're both getting better but are not yet on the level.

A question for Qatari's. Who can play for the Qatari national side?
Is it only native Qatari's?
If that is the case then you are definitley performing very well on the field considering the less than half the country are citizens.

Its a shame the 1981 under 20's team didn't develope further. Australia has had the same problem with gifted under 17 teams that don't seem to grow into a formidable national side.

Usually those playing for them are African Qataris.... the same goes for other athletes they are training in Doha...

I'd say the U.S. has more soccer history than Australia but both are similar. US went to a semifinal (granted it was the first World Cup), and we've been to a quarterfinals as well. Mexico is also one of the two or three best countries to never win the World Cup. I'd say CAF is 3rd, CONCACAF is 4th, and AFC is 5th in terms of level of play right now.

Australia has been playing soccer as long as the USA and before most countries (obvious product of the anglosphere). I guess we will have to disagree about your tiering of CONCACA, CAF and AFC. I stand by what I said about each others top team being able to beat each other. If you had 10 games of Australia vs the USA, 5 in Aus, 5 in the USA. I'm dead certain the result would be 5 all (not including draws).

completely wrong we start give nationalities to some players who lives in Qatar in late of 90's we have longer history for example when we played on the final of U20 worldcup 1982 our team was 100% Qatar native and if we nationlized some players recently we did as many of world teams did and nobody can blame tiny country like Qatar but they can blame big countries which have millions of population and they have forgien players or multi nationalized players.

My team went to the Round of 16 and lost in extra time. I'm not jealous of a nation who has never hosted a World Cup or even been to one. No one is jealous of Qatar's soccer history.
