ha! That's so ugly it's almost funny...

It'd be at home in Milton Keynes or Telford perhaps - maybe a retail park outside Croydon - but at the heart of the 2012 Olympic Park? Blimey.

It's hardly in the heart of the park

Am I correct that a a major news broadcaster will be moving to this building.
I would have included a zero energy photovoltaic wall.
Great attraction during the Games and the colours post 2012 can be tailored to suit the tenant.

It would also be a great option for the Olympic stadium wrap.

Cost: Approx. $450,000

I'm amazed though they haven't even thought about covering up some of the walls with grass or living walls, which makes any subpar building suddenly look quite good.

sub·par (sb-pär)
adj.
1. Not measuring up to traditional standards of performance, value, or production.
2. Below par in a hole, round, or game of golf.

Having gone through the extensive IBC/MPC planning application I must say I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the building, both permanent and temporary structures.

Its blandness is quiet sickening.

Nobody expects an architectural masterpiece but the old warehouse in Sydney used as the IBC has more character than this.

I think rather than worrying too much about what visitors and TV will think (because it's unlikely they'll even notice) 2012 need to:

1) Make sure this works for the people who will be using it.
2) Make sure it works afterwards.

It looks like any old office space. Uninteresting but not hideous.
It is hideous. Its totally inappropriate to the magnificent Olympic park.
Nobody needs to remember it but would it be too much to ask to get some decent architecture for 335 million pounds?

My favourite part:

"The Main Press Centre is envisaged as a contemporary office environment encompassing modern materials, sustainability and innovative use of glass and steel."

My god it just get's worse. So we have a car park as the face of the building? My first reaction 60 70's shopping centre, the kind of building councils around the uk want to demolish.

Yeah...who needs a flashy media centre...

but who needs the biggest carbuncle London has produced in the last 10 years?

We're reaching the abyss with this one.

What the hell is going on? ... Has nobody in the Architects office looked and questioned this design? It is horrendous, as are most of the building designs that have been released in the last couple weeks, we have a beautiful park with a stadium that will impress ( I reckon so anyway) but we are surrounding it with 60's dated designs, this is regeneration.. this is a little bit of history repeating.

Blue Peter or the SmArt team could have put together a more enriching masterplan with some bog roll and old lampshades with stenciled safari animals

terrible, terrible masterplanning. there's a river right by the site ffs, and none of the buildings address it. there's a loop access road instead. lazy.

This design really is an utter embarassment! Just awful, nothing more to say on it really, a real shame if it goes ahead in this state, and for such a huge amount of mulla!
