Fraport is planning to build an interims terminal of 25.000 gross floor area in the south, with a connection to the future Terminal 3 which is planned to be finished in 2018. The interims building for passenger handling is planned to open 12/2014.

So, they expect massive growth in demand... really, really good...
I do not understand where this interim terminal will be located... what does "in the south" mean? The T3 should be located in the southern area, so could the interim terminal be a part of it, or not?

I suppose it will be between T2 and T3 on the line of the people mover, close to future T3. But the tender exercise doesn´t testifies the location clearly to me.

You're right, there is a notice of a "connection to the future Terminal 3", so the interim terminal can't be a part of T3.
Anyway, it will increase costs, being built for only a few years use. Unless it will be used for something else after the completion of T3. But 25.000 sqm is a huge space...

What is SQ's A380 doing in FRA? Was it a diversion because LHR was closed due to heavy snow?

Speaking of LHR. While London shelved plans for a new runway, the new runway at FRA will be operational from October 2011. FRAPORT, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, is expecting strong growth in the coming years. The capacity of flight operations will increase from 80 to 120 (per hour), the number of passengers from over 50 million today to around 80 million in the future.

Yes a diversion from LHR. We'll have to wait a few months till SQ regularly upgauges one of its FRA flights to A388.

Qantas A380's are regular visitors in FRA - LH Technik is doing the maintenance for Qantas.

The Dreamlifter was a diversion from Frankfurt Hahn Airport.

Lufthansa to fly to San Francisco with A380

Lufthansa will start using "the fatty" on its route from FRA to SFO in May.

Its daily flights will be able to carry up to 526 passengers (economy: 420, business: 98, first: 8)

LH currently uses its A380 fleet to link FRA to Beijing, Johannesburg, New York and Tokyo.
