I was speaking of Terminal 3

As far as I know there are not many information about terminal 3 so for. All I know is that the terminal 3 will not be build completely when it is opened. Only 2 of the for "fingers" will be build when the terminal opens. The other two will be build after when they are needed!

New Lufthansa Cargo Center (LCC)

Lufthansa Cargos's most important cargo handling facility (about 80 per cent of its total tonnage flows through each year) is not only old but also nearing the limits of its capacity. According to Lufthansa Cargo, planning of a new and state-of-the-art LCC has already begun. Construction of the building could start in 2013/14. "The dimensioning of the new freight centre hinges essentially on the number of permissible night flights at Frankfurt Airport", said Karl Ulrich Garnadt, Chairman of Lufthansa Cargo at the latest annual press conference in Frankfurt.

This has to be put in perspective.
April 2010 was the volcano in Iceland active, so the airports have a very low activity in Western Europe.
Every west-european airport will have a very strong year to year increase this month!

you're right. however even without the volcano FRA would still have had an increase of 6-7 %, which is excellent for an airport, that has no room to grow, until the new runway and terminal extensions open.

FRA grew faster, than the biggest competitors.

LHR had a bigger loss in april 2010 (-20.7%), but gained a smiliar percentage in april 2011 (+31.5%), as FRA (-16,9% in april 2010 vs. + 31,2% in april 2011), which means LHR grew much slower ...

CDG is even worse. -20% in april 2010 vs. only +26,9% in april 2011. that means without the volcano CDG would stagnate.

Emirates: More flights to FRA

Emirates is launching extra frequencies to Frankfurt.

Quote:
The new, daily Frankfurt flight will take effect during the next winter schedule, making the city a triple daily service. Slot times will be confirmed in due course. Like all of its existing services between Dubai and Germany, the additional daily will be operated in accordance with the current air services arrangements between the UAE and Germany.

Update: New Concourse A-Plus

Quote:
Frankfurt Airport reveals diverse array of new concessionaires

Frankfurt Airport’s new Pier A-Plus, which opens next year, will house a broad array of local, national and international brand names, according to airport operator Fraport, which has revealed the names of key concessionaires at the new facility.

Among the new concessionaires are Wempe and Engelhorn, two popular German retailers. Wempe, one of the world’s top ten jewellers, will open its first store at an airport. Engelhorn, a family-run fashion department store based in Mannheim near Frankfurt, will be offering its range of fashion products.

Leading UK brand Mulberry will be opening its first store in Germany at the new pier. Other international brands coming to Pier A-Plus with their own boutiques include Herms, Montblanc and Porsche Design.

Food & beverage concessionaires in the Schengen area of the pier will include Bistro Hausmann (with 222sq m of space), a retailer named COA offering Asian cuisine (241sq m), the Frankfurt Wirtshaus offering German specialities (245sq m), a 220sq m Italian-themed Mondo Blanco outlet and a Casualfood quick service unit (55sq m).

The Schengen area will also be home to a Meyer's delicatessen (108sq m), a wellness outlet under the Beauty Lounge name operated by Metropolitan Health & Beauty GmbH, and a Massimo Dutti fashion store (174sq m). There will also be a Tie Rack and a Christ jewellery outlet, a Gant store, a combined Tumi and Longchamp unit, a Thomas Sabo store, a Wolford store plus a Relay news & books outlet.

Both Schengen and Non-Schengen zones will feature Photair Electronics and Germany & More stores.

In the Non-Schengen area, traditional German food will be served at the 290sq m Marktwirt unit (operated by Kuffler & Bucher), while Lucullus Nero (SSP Germany, operating in 300sq m) will offer original Italian gourmet specialties. There will be a wine and cocktail bar named Reingold (220sq m), a Caviar House & Prunier unit, a Temaki outlet plus a McDonald's McCafe. Other outlets in the Non-Schengen area include a 130sq m Pocket Shop (books) operated by a subsidiary of Douglas Holding.

The new facility will add 10,000sq m to Frankfurt Airport's retail space
As previously reported, Gebr Heinemann will operate two 2,000sq m walk-through duty free and Travel Value stores under the Heinemann Duty Free name. Fraport said the walk-through concepts would be "inviting and discreet" but not "overpowering".

With the opening of Frankfurt Airport's new Pier A-Plus in the summer of 2012, Fraport said it expects total retail space to increase from the current 31,000sq m to more than 41,000sq m. The 800m-long Pier A-Plus will house more than 60 new shops and restaurants.

Fraport Executive Board Chairman Dr Stefan Schulte said: “Frankfurt Airport will be taking a quantum leap forward with some 10,000sq m of additional retail space in the terminals. Furthermore the opening of Pier A-Plus will noticeably increase the attractiveness of Germany's most important air transportation gateway. Pier A-Plus – which features high-quality materials, an atrium diffused by natural light, and spacious interior design – will set new design standards for terminal construction, which Fraport will also utilise for the planning of the future Terminal 3.”

Retail spend per passenger is expected to hit €4 at Frankfurt, with Pier A-Plus contributing heavily to the increase
Fraport is expecting a surge in business for its Retail and Real Estate segment as a result of the opening. Fraport's retail revenue is expected to climb from €3.00 to about €4.00 per passenger, with Pier A-Plus contributing significantly.

In addition, Pier A-Plus will create important new terminal capacity for up to six million passengers per year. "This terminal expansion is particularly important because we will be inaugurating Frankfurt's new Runway Northwest at the start of the Winter 2011/12 timetable. This means that the number of aircraft movements will climb to about 90 per hour," explained Schulte.

Pier A-Plus is the first terminal area at Frankfurt to incorporate, from the outset, retailing requirements in the planning and construction.

Dr Schulte said that attractive marketplaces, airline lounges, bars and bistros with a view of the terminal ramp have all been optimally planned into the efficient passenger and transfer process.

“Quality time spent in the terminal as well as the attractiveness and diversity of airport offerings are increasingly important factors for passengers when they consciously choose which airport to use – especially when it comes to transfer passengers, who represent more than half of our traffic,” he said.

“We must provide optimum care and facilities for our passengers. Furthermore, it is vital to offer a unique travel experience that differentiates Frankfurt from other airport competitors. We believe that our new range of offerings will achieve this.”
