This place is fascinating. Every couple of minutes another plane lands. I remember when I was flying towards Leipzig my airplane was waiting for take off. I looked trough the window and there was a queue of airplanes waiting to get on the runway. I was always wondering how do they manage to organize this place. There are a hundreds of small vehicles carrying bags, cargo, people, tools,...

Fraport to invest up to 200 mln euros to woo low-cost airlines

FRANKFURT, July 6 (Reuters) - Frankfurt airport operator Fraport plans to invest around 150-200 million euros ($171-$228 million) in a new pier for low-cost carriers, its chief executive Stefan Schulte said on Thursday.

Fraport is seeking to expand low-cost flights from Frankfurt in order to make up for waning growth from traditional airlines, such as its main customer Lufthansa.

Fraport, which has signed up Ryanair and Wizz Air as new low-cost customers, had said in May it was planning a new pier for low-cost flights that would be part of a new Terminal 3 but would open before the rest of the terminal.

Schulte told an event in Frankfurt the pier would be operational in 2020. Terminal 3 is due to open in 2023.

Schulte had earlier told German paper Die Welt that he expected passenger numbers in Frankfurt to rise to around 64 million this year.

That would be around 5 percent growth on last year's 60.8 million and above Fraport's previous forecast that it would reach the upper end of a 2-4 percent range.

Hi guys, I booked a Lufthansa flight from KTW to DUB with a transfer in FRA. The problem is the transfer is just 45 minutes... I was wondering if anyone else had a similarly tight connection from a Schengen country to UK or Ireland and if they made it or not. On one hand I know this is extremely tight, on the other hand I once made a connection from WAW to ORD in Brussels in 1h05min and still had plenty of time left. I also heard there are some fast lanes for hurrying passengers at security and passport checkpoints?

It is super tight. If you've booked two separate flights then it's too risky, I would book another flight. If not, then if you miss the second flight, LH will rebook you onto the next DUB flight.

It's one reservation, bought directly at LH website. I asked because I hear conflicting opinions. Some people would say it's not enough, others will say I need 20 minutes only. So far my tightest transfer was in Brussels between a flight from Warsaw to a flight to Chicago - 1h05min and that was more than enough.

It is short, but I think you should be fine. That is also LH's minimum transfer time policy otherwise they wouldn't allow you to make one booking with that connection (since it costs them more to place you on the next flight). Just also make sure you select a seat towards the front of the plane to get off faster. And, in any case, if you do miss it, LH will place you on the next flight.

They use "european" business class (normal economy seat with no neighbor) to turkey? Always thought Turkish airlines uses proper business class on those flights.
