good news from the airrailcenter - it gets a new multi-storey car park. there will be 9levels with public parking space for 2500cars. originally airrailplanners wanted to build it for up to 7000cars, but some treehugger-politicians were against this, despite overproportional compensation measure.. also the roof is going to get grassed and it will be directly connected to the airrailcenter via skylink.
construction start is set on 4th quarter09, planned date of completion 3rd quarter 2011

old render, showing the location and the old (and bigger) version of the airrailparking

also i would like to show you some great and pretty actual shots of fellow german forumer tyron, of the current airport construction-sites

the new tower

it will look pretty much like this, when its finished:

extension of terminal1, pier A0

new apron control tower at pier A

2more shots looking to the root of pier A extension (A0)

and last but not least.. the stunning airrailcenter

New Northwest runway

Runway construction work is currently underway as well - following tree clearance at the 220-hectare site. The centerline separation from the existing North runway will be approx. 1,400 meters (4.620 ft). This will allow for simultaneous landing operations on these two runways, which are not possible on the existing parallel runways because they are not far enough apart. Frankfurts 4th runway is expected to open in time for the airport’s 2011 winter timetable.

That's truly awesome. Today they also presented the renderings for the 1st. satellite at Terminal 2 in Munich. Is there a Munich thread existing?

Frankfurt Airport expansion project

Hi ,
I'm amazed how huge it will be! The work is just galloping full speed ahead. Pics tell the whole story. I am a big fan of infrastructure and building new projects of those dimensions like the one so nicely documented. Keep up the good work!

By the way ( sorry for the OT) could someone give me info regarding building/ repairing runways. I tried to find DETAILED information, but could not dig it out yet. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

runways

Hi,
I need to know how the runway is build - step - by - step. I know that there is a specific procedure to design and build it. It is NOT a regular "piece of pavement". It has very precise specifications - there will a huge variety of aircrafts using it, there needs to be underground installations, what kind of cement-asphalt mixture is best to use, which one is the most durable, how fast you can build it...you know - the whole process , from the blueprints to finished product.
Another thing is to renovate the runway, especially if you have to maintain the flow of traffic.
So if you have more info/websites specializing in this issue - That would be great. The more details, the better.
Thanks!

I also found something "special" - FAA website. You can only imagine what's there - everything!
Just using specific terminology and vocabulary I can find all I need.

Love those pics from the building of the extention - Frankfurt terminal. Keep them coming, please.
