Red Arrows' flypasts to 'symbolically link' UK

As part of the opening ceremony, the Red Arrows will fly over Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London.

Now, I though militaria was barred from opening ceremonies?

Every games I can think of had their military raise the flags, also Athens had a military band.

seen various architectural lighting schemes being tested lately. Pan Peninsular's is pretty damned nice, HSBC and 1CS have recently faffed with their crowns, the Barclays HQ has scaffolding on it while they replace all the crown lights, numbers tower blocks and tall buildings around the place have started to glow in strange colours and now this... Tower Bridge gets it's olympic thing on...

Hmm not sure about this being permanent but for the tourists i suppose it looks like a novelty. Plus for the ceremony surely it will be light for the vast bulk of the ceremony

Surely Tower Bridge should have more lighting going on along the upper walkway.. would be great to have it with more motion.

I agree about the walkway, but I suppose they are putting the rings on soon, possibly they'll do the lighting then.

It looks a bit gaudy (yes, I know - it's Tower Bridge and "Gaudy" is its middle name!) with those primary colours. They're a bit too bright rather than being accent highlighter.

Not keen on the Tower Bridge lighting :\ Call me old, but I'd rather it was uplit in its normal fashion with the rings added for colour.

Guys, you do realise this is a test? Do you really think this is their planned lighting for nighttime? They are simply testing that the first section of installed lights are working correctly before they go on to install the others. Im pretty sure the plan is to light it up bright white, UNLESS there is a special event.

Indeed that's just the 'accent' lights, there are LED strips along the walkways and suspension chains, also the normal architectural floodlights are still in place too...

the colour changing roof lights are just tinsel really, they were just testing the new bits so the older architectural lighting and the recent highlight LED strips weren't turned on.

T42 had a test of bright green LED lights all the way around its core/crown last night. I wonder if this is part of a larger lighting scheme for the olympics or ceremony, or whether this is just coincidence and this is their new crown lighting..

I have noticed a lot of buildings getting new lighting, mainly on the crowns.

I also wonder if the opening ceremony will include the city dancing with a lighting effect?

Even some ex council blocks near canning town and Bow seem to have new lights on them?

I was told at my training session that the bridge was to be lit in Gold Silver and Bronze...

The ones near Bow are the Lansbury Estate next to Langdon Park DLR, there are 8x 11 story towers circa 1956-1959 which have all had their rooftop water towers repainted and fitting with blue LED uplighters. I got a few pictures from the top of said water towers early last year :0)

I think all the local tower blocks, landmarks and significant buildings will pulse with light in the countdown to the fireworks in the Opening Ceremony like some sort of gigantic provincial disco.

I envisage the start of the television broadcast to be a helicopter following the Thames, probably starting just short of the Houses of Parliament and slightly winding its way up to Tower Bridge through to Canary Wharf and the Dome, before diverting up to the park and over the Stadium, ready for the start of the ceremony.
