Telecom incubator Startup Village launched in Kerala in PPP mode
Quote:
Startup Village, a telecom incubator in the public-private partnership mode, will start functioning in Kerala in the second week of April with a projected investment of Rs 100 crore and the aim of nurturing more than 1000 student start-up ventures.

The incubator will come up in Kochi and is designed toemulate the success of the famed Silicon Valley incubators in the United States and transform Kerala into "Silicon Coast", a press release from the company said.

The launch of the project was announced by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at a press conference here today, flanked by eminent people from the industry and senior government officials.

Among those present on the occasion were former NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik, H K Mittalfrom the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Rajan Mathews, Director General of Cellular Operators Association of India, Abhishek Goyal, CEO of UrbanTouch.com, and Sanjay Vijayakumar, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Startup Village.

The project is being set up by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) under the DST, and the Kerala Government-run Technopark, in collaboration with MobME Wireless – a private firm which began as a student start-up and has grown to become one of India’s top emerging companies.

Kochi to host Nasscom HR Forum on March 29
Quote:

Kochi: The seventh session of NASSCOM HR Forum will be held on March 29, 2012 at Kochi. The session will focus on ‘Talent to Manage Talent - New Millennium Trendz’. According to a communiqué from the Nasscom Regional Office, this workshop reflects the necessity of Companies to depend on the support and contributions of internal partners to attract clients and achieve results. ‘Managing People’ or in other words, ‘Managing Talent’ will drive forward the fundamental shift in the attitude towards Internal Talent.

The sessions aims at providing a broad understanding of - the advances and challenges in Resources Management, in the context of the current millennium; approach by organizations to manage and retain talent; HR’s role in managing the shift from a mere function-oriented to a process-oriented culture, from an implementing organization to an internal advisory team; collaborative management with internal talent, rather than management for talent; appreciate the tremendous capacity, people have for developing and creating value, internally - and how HR professionals can harness organization’s faith on that capacity, for the success of the organization.

After the workshop on ‘The Talent to Manage Talent - New Millennium Trendz’, there will be a panel discussion on ‘Changing role of HR - Change Agent, Innovator and Strategic Partner’.

The session is targeted at CXO's, Senior Management, HR Heads & Decision Makers, Talent Acquisition Managers and Learning & Development Specialists. There is no fee but prior registration is mandatory and the last date is March 28.

This is the second HR Forum to be scheduled in Kerala. In November, 2011, a session on ‘From Employee engagement to Employee Effectiveness: Achieving returns and Delivering results’, was held in Trivandrum.

A great start for Startup Village

Quote:
The first phase of the Startup Village at Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) Park, Kalamassery, the country’s first telecom business incubator on public-private partnership, is geared up for inauguration on April 1. “Of the 15,000 sq ft, 5,000 sq ft will be opened. The administrative block and training facility with a 50-seater mini conference hall, where ‘hackathorn’, blogging and other events have been chalked out, will be opened on April 1. The Blackberry Innovation Zone partnered by RIM India and space for companies will be opened on April 4,” said Sijo George, CEO, Startup Village.

Two companies have been filtered from the 15 applications - Wowmakers and Mindhelix, both by student entrepreneurs for setting start-ups.

“We are happy to be the first start-up in the Village. We focus on mobile application, our USP being design which includes logo branding and animated explanation,” said Vivek Raghavan, one of the four founders of Wowmakers. All the five are graduates from the College of Engineering, Thrikkarippur, Kasargod. ‘Super small, Super talent’ is their watchword.

Kalidasan of Mindhelix Technology is also happy to be the first. “That the village offers funding is a great encouragement. They plan to raise `100 crore which they plan to invest. We intend to find solutions in mobile applications and m-governance. We developed the ‘tuktukmeter’ for calculating auto-fares last year.” Kalidasan who along with his classmate from Toc H Engineering College, Kochi, and a friend from Chengannur Engineering College, set up the startup which now has 30 more members.

The Village focuses on student startups from campuses and aims to include more companies. Latest technology platforms and service providers will be made available.

The National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Technopark and MobME Wireless, a successful start-up of Technopark, are the hands behind the Village.
If a good number of incubatees goes successful and emerge out successful companies, it will indirectly help the next phase of growth of Infopark/Smart city. Or perhaps in future a Telecom city itself... The vibrant cosmopolitan city life of Kochi, coupled with multiple social and economic options it offers, can help it grow big......

I personally, we should have a different thread for this venture, as in future, lot of news can be expected from this project. Since its coming up in Kinfra Park, not related to Infopark, I feel its deserves a thread of its own. What do other forumers think?

Well Guys,

Its slightly unusual to see Kochi SSCians not discussing much about Startup Village- India's first entrepreneurial incubation zone for telecom support, coming up in Kinfra Hi-Tech Park at Kalamassery.

Ofcourse though we are not discussing, many else are discussing, with regular reasons. Likewise lot of media are discussing this news in vigor in a positive vibes, thanks to marketing prowess of Mobme. Still, key reason for this buzz is because it aims to create a Silicon Coast in Kerala with Kochi being its focal point.....

I don't wish for a hype creation, as it makes lot of unnecessary high expectations and even lesser satisfaction value if any small issues erupts......

Yet, its a humble beginning with lots of dreams for future, aiming to create a future HP, future Microsoft, a future Apple kind of brands from our own soil..... Isn't it interesting to support it?

I am not taking pain to post all Newspaper reports. Happy to see Kochi back to limelight again for future...... May be 10 years time, might be something we need to invest to see a metamorphosis, not just our city, but indeed our state as whole in creating a mega Silicon Valley.... Just go thro' reports and the Start Up village is opening in a hi-tech 4G enabled 5,000 sqft Office facility on April 1st 2012..... Lets wish Best of Luck to the new venture......

The above is pic of new Startup Village in Kinfra Hi-Tech Park which is gearing for tommorrow's inauguration dreaming to creating 100 billion dollar companies by March 31st 2022.

The bldg is really good, ofcourse for many it resembles a giant water tank and techies going to work under cooling effect of water, if can store any....

Anyway, leave all that........ Its something novel for the city and I propose for a new thread fitting for its dreams and aspirations.......

IP 1 Updates

1) Leela IP looks like almost work finished from outside even though many things to be done inside. Glassing work of the building is going in a good pace. Its seems its have a similar kind of building what they have earlier.

Hope it would be partially operational by end of September.

2) TCS Kochi Centre construction is rocketing day by day. L&T is doing unbelievable job here. Block A construction has reached up to the g+5 floor and Block B construction happening along with this.Block B's base works are happening well. On the other end of the campus all other facilities like guest house & MLCP etc works going in the same pace. TCS Kochi's first campus will be operational by next year JAN atleast 5 floors would be operational. And the good news out here is that TCS will retain their SDC in Tejomaya & Vismaya as such even though the campus is fully operational. TCS has great plans for Kochi and they find great potential with this city.

3) IBS & Brigade

In fact it looks like IBS cleared and leveled up their land for a football ground.I am sorry to inform you that this plot is been used by IBS to play football there.Brigade have not started any thing out here. NO actions happening here.

Thanks for the Updates ,If TCS will retain the ODC's @ Vismaya and Tejomaya..that means the entire capacity will be easily more than 10000 proffessionals

Being an Ex-TCSer I am also aware abt the KOCHI centre's growth plans and potential..Its the hub for emerging markets and EMEA.
