Infopark second phase expansion to begin soon
Quote:
Infopark Kochi is all set to embark on its massive second phase expansion next month.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will lay the foundation stone for the second phase on February 12. The Chief Minister will also unveil the master plan for the second phase on the occasion. A meeting to form a reception committee for the ceremony will be held at the Vadavucode block panchayat on Saturday.

Of the 160 acres identified for the expansion in Kunnathunadu and Puthencruz villages, 120-odd acres had already been acquired. The acquisition of the rest of the land is embroiled in some legal tangles.

Sector-specific SEZ

The expansion plan had received a big boost last September when a meeting of the Board of Approvals (BoA) of the Union Ministry of Commerce granted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status to about 31 acres of the project area.

The approval had cleared the way for Infopark to set up a sector-specific IT and IT-Enabled Services Special Economic Zone as part of its phase two expansion. When executed fully, the phase two will generate 80,000-odd jobs.

The idea is to complete the expansion in three phases. Initially, BPO Complex, software development block and a convention centre would be set up as part of the expansion. The proposed BPO Complex with a built-up space of 4 lakh sq.ft. will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs.200 crore.

The total investment for the phase two expansion has been estimated to be in the range of Rs.2,500 crore, of which Infopark would invest about Rs.475 crore in the next three years.

Apart from the Rs.200 crore to be invested on the BPO complex, Rs.200 crore and Rs.75 crore would respectively be invested in basic infrastructure and core infrastructure.

IT sector to trigger job opportunities
Quote:
If things go as expected, Kochi will generate as many as 2.4 lakh job opportunities in the IT sector, including about 80,000 direct IT jobs, with the commissioning of the second phase of Infopark.
The second phase of Infopark, the foundation stone for which will be laid by the Chief Minister on February 12, is expected to be completed within a period of 15 months. The Rs 2,500-crore project will come up at Puthencruz and Kunnathunad in the rural areas of Ernakulam.
The officials said once the development of second phase is completed, it’s expected to generate about 80,000 direct IT jobs along with about 1.6 lakh indirect jobs. “We believe once the second phase is over there will be huge job opportunities in the affiliated services sector. These jobs will be mainly on all sources of transportation, catering service, shops, banks and malls, service apartments, cleaning service, security staff, operation and maintenance and all other affiliated services with the IT park,” K Kurien, senior technical advisor with Infopark, Kochi, said.
The second phase will have three types of infrastructure facilities — IT complexes which come directly under Infopark, IT complexes from codevelopers and IT companies with their own campuses. “Altogether there will be about 200 IT companies functioning in the second phase of the park, which is expected to start its operations by March 2012,” he said. Tender procedures have already begun for the construction of the first building in the second phase. Once operational, this will create about 4,000 IT jobs. The entire project to be executed in three phases will be over by eight years, said the officials. Of the entire project cost, `475 crore would be invested by the Infopark. On February 12, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone and will unveil the master plan for the second phase. The second phase will come up in an area of 80 lakh sq km. Of the total 160 acres identified for the project, 120 acres have already been acquired. The Board of Approvals of the Union Government has already sanctioned Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status to a portion of the project area.

VS to launch second phase of Infopark today+
Quote:
The second phase expansion of Infopark spread over 160 acres in Kunnathunadu and Puthencruz villages will be launched on Sunday.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will lay the foundation stone and unveil the master plan for the second phase at a function to be held at Brahmapuram in Kunnathunadu constituency at 11 a.m. Minister for Fisheries and Registration S. Sarma will preside. Transport Minister Jose Thettayil will deliver the keynote address.

MPs, P. Rajeev and K.P. Dhanapalan will be among those present. IT Principal Secretary K. Suresh Kumar will present the report.

Majority of the 160 acres identified for the project has been identified while the remaining land is embroiled in legal issues.

The expansion plan received a shot in the arm in last September when a meeting of the Board of Approvals (BoA) of the Union Ministry of Commerce granted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status to about 31 acres of the project area.

The approval had cleared the way for Infopark to set up a sector specific IT and IT-Enabled Services Special Economic Zone as part of its phase two expansion. When executed fully, the phase two project will generate 80,000-odd jobs.

Apart from the Rs.200 crore to be invested on the BPO complex, Rs. 200 crore and Rs. 75 crore would be invested in basic infrastructure and core infrastructure.

When completed, the second phase would provide a built-up space of 8 million sq.ft.

This would take the total built-up space provided by Infopark to about 15 million sq.ft taking into account the combined space provided by the IT parks at Koratty, Cherthala, and Ambalapuzha as well.

No, scorpio, that is the old one.

Hindu published a photo of the function, which shows the plan as backdrop

It is evidently different, hence the question about the plan.

Kochi IT firm launches life database application

Kochi, Feb 25 ( IANS) Kochi-based mobile products development company Dexetra Friday launched here what it claims to be the world's first life database application.

Named 'Friday', the application automates the process of building a self-database by creating a semantic map of activities that the users do on their phone and also identifying the places they visit. This enables users to travel back in time and pinpoint the information they need, a senior company official said.

According to Narayan Babu, Dexetra's chief executive officer, the application captures every moment of one's life and answers questions about oneself by providing a wide array of analytics and maintains a journal. 'Since the smart phone usage is growing globally, 'Friday' can definitely play a key role in every user's life,' said Babu. 'Friday' integrates itself with the Android operating system on a very deep and intricate level to derive the content created by the user, the company claimed. ..

Dexetra was founded in 2010 by a group of seven young entrepreneurs and specialises in iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry Windows mobile and symbian application development and mobility in general.
