You certainly can overbuild. See, without knowing any traffic projections for this airport it is impossible to say what is needed. The master plan may say that when this airport is expanded the road will need to change. There may also be space constraints and they have done the best they could with the area given.

The canal is making an unnecessary division.
I mean it's feasible, but not the best option in that area of the airport.
It looks great, but when travellers are going to hurry to get to the check in lines, then who's going to notice the canal.
The idea is not bad, but I'd prefer them to have it in the waiting/boarding area rather than at the that space.
It's hard to say if it is obstruction. Those bridges over the canal might be right in front of the doors so the passenger may be walking in and going right across the canal. I think it keeps things a bit more organized than if it wasn't there and people going in all sorts of directions.

So it would seem gts going by the info in this thread...

The architects Frederic Schwartz had this to say...
"The stepped pool acts as a natural and physical separation between the visitor area and the check-in zone while creating a memorable experience for passengers, its reflectivity offering a psychological respite and calming of the soul for travelers."

And this render is from the airside end of the terminal - the waiting lounges...
BIAL could take a cue from here as to the aisle space between the seating area, which is similar to BIAL's in width and the cafe / shopping side of the aisle.

As far as I can see though , it doesnt seem like there's much more space available to expand the terminal modularily on this side of the runway...

And this may explain the tight curves and slower approach roads to the terminal drop off areas; not to mention the need for traffic to back track on the same oval just to park/ leave the airport. This would inefficiently double the traffic on the oval with the route overlap of incoming and outgoing traffic sharing the same road just to use the parking lot.

Managable perhaps if forecasted traffic stays below 3-5 million pax per year. (Guesstimating using the smaller aircraft (737/ 320) parking bays and size of terminal with 4 aerobridges compared with the size of BIAL terminal with 8 aerobridges for similar parking bay sizes)

I don't think the outside design has "wow" factor. From outside it looks more like an airplane hanger than an airport. But I like the interior, especially the canal. I like the way it separates passengers from visitors. Because of security reasons, Indian airports give a very limited access/space to visitors. In this rendering we can see that visitors area will be almost half of the total space, which is really nice.

One thing is for sure that it looks so much better than the existing airport. I have actually flown to/from this airport and it badly needs a renovation.

Regarding the traffic issue, I think four aero-bridges would definitely cater the need for the next 10-15 years. I believe currently this airport has about 20 arriving and departing flights a day. It's a fairly small airport.

Vadodara to have International Flights next year

Quote:
Work on international airport in Vadodara will be complete by October next year and international flights will start from here. Union Minister of Civil Aviation Praful Patel made this statement while laying the foundation stone for new terminal at Vadodara airport.

He said that for international flights, the runways needed more land and the state government should provide land. 25 acre of land is needed, he said. The aviation ministry is in the process of construction of airports in Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Surat, Bhuj and Vadodara.
AAI are keeping themselves quite busy it seems!!!

Just a thought:-

Why the hell are they going international, when A'bad is so close by with an international airport already (which will also dawn a new look shortly).

I would personally rather have the joy of riding the expressway to A'bad and then take an international flight.

hey

even though vadodara is @ nearby Ahmadabad, it gets high inflow and outflow of international and national passengers from amd./mumbai/delhi plus don't forget it is one of the epicenter of NRIs like me.

vadodara needed international airport as much as surat wanted to get domestic airport for so long...

Agree.......ahmedabad is a 1 and halfhour drive frm Amd then why vadodara needs internationalairportsosoon.....!!
Still a city like ahmedabad with having international airport a decade ago is still striving for international airlines...then how could you expect good international connectivity to and frm vadodra which is a way smaller than ahmedabad....!!
even if the new terminal becomes operation i doubt vadodara would get more international destinations....!!

i kinda disagree with you....just think the condition of amd international airport...it urgently needs more international flights but is still striving...!!
then how could you think that vadodara airport would get good international connectivity.....commansense...yaar.....!!
