The east (south) tower is topped out.

And the first cable is up!
It's one of the side/lateral cables to the outrigger -

Pics from the webcam today.

They are not of the ramps (sorry) but it is a very cool and unique point of the project nonetheless.

Currently, the gantry crane putting together the north approach is directly overhead of the United Boulevard with many segments suspended above the traffic. Let me just say many are rubber necking it today! (Also it is scary looking through my sunroof to the concrete mass hanging above me as I wait to go on Mary Hill).

Here are my pics!

Webcam pic from today:

Weird how the perspective makes the 4 cables in the middle look like 2 cables (i.e. in the pic, east side has 6 cables, west side has 5 cables)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The other cables are also [temporarily] being held by wires.

I think the angle of the shot makes it look worse than it actually is. They do have a little room to work with before they run into residential areas beside the highway.

So the cables have been brought down to what looks like their finished positions.
Not sure how it was done, but they look like they should look. Webcam pics from today:

First cables are up on the north tower. It's looking more like a bridge now...

Here's a webcam shot:

Even two years ago, the east-west traffic on transCanada highway and over this bridge was really bad. It took us awhile to reach the downtown.

The bridge is massive and serves a purpose, but its crude in design. The attention to detail is lacking

Yea, that half built bridge definitely needs some shrubbery, and needs to be painted like the inside of the Sistine Chapel tout suite.

Am hoping there is also lots of public transportation developments in order for car traffic to not get out of control!

Painting the cement like the new bridge in Louisiana or tapered support posts like the new Bay Bridge would be nice. Anything that shows we aren't going the typical "bare bones-mickey mouse" route we're so used to in BC

How is it more ecological to have congested cars stuck on a bridge letting all out emissions?

Launching trusses have been erected on the bridge deck of the north tower of the bridge
(for construction over the water, whereas they hoist materials up from below on the landlocked south tower side).

Note the temporary anchor cables to the ground - so that's what those piles were for down there:

So is letting traffic backup on a bridge that is carrying more vehicles than it is designed for.
