The Chernivtsi University (current full name Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University)
It is outstanding service of bukovina’s metropolitan Eugene Gakman (1795-1873) that this provincial town have received its own University. It was due to there were several more famous rival-towns, which competed with Chernivtsi to be the city with own University.
Old Prague needed Czech High School, the motherland of Mozart – Salzburg would restore to life University, which functioned till 1810; Triest port town also wanted to have University. On 31st of March 1875 Franz Josef signed into law about the Chernivtsi University founding.
So let’s watch at the main building of the University, the residence of metropolitan in the past. The building was constructed according to the project of bright Czech architect Josef Glavka.

The level of efforts was great. Specially for the construction the special quarries were worked, 2 brickyards and pottery started to work. Also school for construction workers was founded. Austria-Hungary have never seen any like this!!! Almost 18 years Glavka was creating his masterpiece. The construction was built carefully. Every brick was checked for defects by size and sound. One builder was allowed to lay only 100 bricks a day and no more!!!

The St. Resurrection church and bell tower, Voskresens'ka vulytsa (Voskresens'ka Street)/Maydan Nezare`znosti.
This church is the first stone building in the city. Was opened for laymen in 1702.
Was built for the money of Gerasim and Andrey Kondratiev - the first Sumy colonels
The original form of the church was lost, so the modern look church had received due to the restoration work in 1970th.
This church has 2 (two) floors and a great basement with the tonnel to the river Psel.
During the Soviet period of history it was used as storehouse and then as a museum. Now it is the orthodox church.
The fact: it seems the church was used as a fortress - it has 1,5 m. width of walls, deep windows.

The museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine
Pyrohiv (Ukrainian: Пирогів), also known as Pirogovo (Russian: Пирого́во), originally a village south of Kiev, is a neighborhood in the southern outskirts of the Ukrainian capital city. It is now home to an outdoor Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine.

Although the origin of the toponym is uncertain, pyrohiv is genitive plural form of the Ukrainian word for pie.
The territory of historic Pyrohiv now serves as the location of a 1.5-square-kilometre (370-acre) outdoor Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine. Founded in 1969, the museum contains over 300 pieces of folk architecture brought here from all parts of Ukraine and carefully reassembled. The picturesque hill with several windmills is the museum centrepiece and the entire territory of the museum is divided into sectors, each representing the folk architecture and life of a specific Ukrainian region.
Commoner's homes, buildings of small trade, commerce and local administration, and old wooden village churches contain authentic items that represent the everyday lifestyle of Ukrainian villagers and townsfolk. Local volunteers and modern Ukrainian artisans selling their wares dress in old-style clothes and demonstrate the use of authentic everyday items to visitors.
Pyrohiv museum has been accorded the status of State Museum of Ukraine and is affiliated with the Institute of Arts, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine.

Passage shopping mall
The architect Lev Vlodek built the Passage from 1898-1899, a beautiful hotel and an ornately decorated corridor connected to Deribasivska and Preobrazhenska (Преображенська). The corridor has glassed arches, molded ornaments and several sculptures.
The shopping mall's grand opening was January 23, 1900. The mall caught fire on October 31, 1901, and miraculously no one was hurt, and to the credit of the Odessa fire brigade, there was little damage.[3]
On the roof of the Deribasovskaya side of the corridor, flanking either side of the Пасаж sign, there is the a dilapidated statue of the Greek God Mercury on a steam engine and Ceres on a boat.

Ukraine is not "the most elegant of the third world".
And the one reason - we are not the 3d world's country.

the standards of living is standart for developing European country like Romania, Bulgaria, Poland.
One of two. You consider the countries above also as the countries of the third world/ Or... you was not in Ukraine last time even 1 time.

The Khotyn Fortress
The Khotyn Fortress (Ukrainian: Хотинська фортеця, Polish: twierdza w Chocimiu, Turkish: Hotin Kalesi, Romanian: Cetatea Hotinului) is a fortification complex located on the shores of the Dniester River in Khotyn, Chernivtsi Oblast (province) of western Ukraine. Construction on the current fortress was started in 1325, while major improvements were made in the 1380s and in the 1460s.
The fortress is a large tourist attraction for the area and Ukraine. In 2007, the fortress was named one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine. It is also a National Ukrainian Architectural Preserve as of 2000.
The Khotyn Fortress's beginning goes back to the Khotyn Fort, which was built in the 10th century by Prince Vladimir Sviatoslavich as one of the border fortifications of southwestern Kievan Rus', after he added the land of present-day Bukovina into his control.
In 1615 the Polish army captured Khotyn, and in 1620 the city was captured back by the Turkish army.
In September-October 1621, the Commonwealth army under command of hetman Jan Karol Chodkiewicz and Petro Sahaidachny, Yatsko Borodavka (about 50,000 troops) successfully held off the army of Turkish sultan, Osman II (estimated at 100,000), in the Battle of Khotyn. On October 8, 1621 the Khotyn Peace Treaty was signed, stopping the Ottoman advance into the Commonwealth and confirming the Commonwealth-Ottoman border on the Dniester river (the border of the Principality of Moldova).

sorry dear

did not want to offend the Ukraine, I think this beautiful country

but Ukraine is so third world

see the Index of Human Development in Ukraine according to the UN

0,786 (the closer to 1 the most developed country)

Other third world countries are more developed that the Ukraine like Brazil in 0,807, the Russian Federation in 0,806, Turkey in 0,798, with the 0,808 Macedonia, Albania in 0,807

sorry if this offends you, honey, but the truth

A first world country has the HDI 0,949 or 0,950 as Spain and USA

And Ukraine has not yet the standard of living in Poland, Romania, Russia and Hungary are the most developed Eastern Europe

You know, I'm interested in this rating too
I saw this list of HDI. I think Ukraine has a low place in this list, because it has a shadow economy.
There are many people in my country get a two wages (official and unofficial).
For example, Ukrainian standart of pension such as in Russia, I get the grant which is more than in Russia (I have 62$ and my Russian friend only 30$).
The life expectancy at birth low than Russia.
rick1990go Where come you from?
Sorry for my English.
