ABUJA TECHNOLOGY PROJECT|ABUJA - NIGERIA|ONGOING

WORK IN PROGRESS: ABUJA TECHNOLOGY PROJECT

Abuja Technology Village (ATV) is one of the sector-dedicated destinations planned or being developed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in line with global trends of creating industrial clusters in bespoke enabling environments to facilitate their enormous contributions to the advancement of their host and other beneficiary locations. The rest are Abuja Automotive Village, Abuja Film Village and the more recently announced, Abuja Healthcare Village. The Technology Village - located within the same district as the African University of Science & Technology - is aimed at providing a multifunctional environment with first-class infrastructure, civic amenities and other comprehensive support services to attract technology companies of all sizes, particularly in the areas of Information and Communications, Energy, Minerals and Bio technologies. This upcoming cluster is poised to contribute significantly to the much desired transformation to a knowledge-driven and sustainable Nigerian economy. The project shall be largely private-sector driven, albeit with tailored design, construction, investment and other guidelines being produced based on pragmatic International best practices. Since the inception of the ATV, the FCT Administration and the Federal Government have taken several preparatory steps including amongst others, the commencement of Civil Infrastructural Works and conferment of a Special Economic Zone status at/to the project site respectively. Considering its high-impact potential, the Administration of the Honourable FCT Minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, has given the project a priority status on the FCT Development Agenda and is putting in place the necessary means to accelerate its development. Speaking on its importance to not only Nigeria but Africa as a whole, the Honourable Minister announced during an on-the-spot assessment tour of the project site earlier this year, that "the Abuja Technology Village is a project we are putting high premium on under the leadership of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. We want to see that we accomplish it so that it brings prosperity to our people.

Does this really warrant a new thread? The ATV project has been known for years and has an another official thread.
