Ouch. To overshoot a corner that badly, I'm very sure the driver was speeding.

I agree, I don't think you can blame the accident solely on the bus having only two axels.

How many accidents of HK buses have happened so far this year? Seems like a lot to me...

Noticed CTB are fitting those Hanover (?) destos to their buses? Is this part of an ongoing refurb project or is this because it is easier to program new destinations?

Given most CTB vehicles are not DDA compliant, and needs to be replaced- when is the timeframe for replacement and why bother refrofitting these new destos?

Both. It is part of the renewal project and easier to program new destination as well as other message (such as Happy New Year and Merry X'Mas.)

There is no regulation in HK requiring all the public transportation to be handicapped accessible. It is recommended, but not required. There is no plan for anyone to replace the existing fleet with HD ramps or elevator just because the recommendation. But as the CTB fleet gets old, I do think any bus replacement coming in from now on will be low floor and equipped with a HD ramp. But it will be a long time from now to replace all buses.

The oldest A/C buses in the CTB fleet were imported in around 1993/4. Those are slowly fading out and sold to other countries. These buses with the new destos are newer, from around 1997/8 period. I believe the law is all vehicles must not be more than 16 year-old. They still have quite some time to be in service. This is around the time those buses to be renovated; but the process is actually very slow.

Plus CTB is owned by NWFB, the two companies share everything. Almost all the buses in the NWFB's fleet are equipped with the destos, and the company must have ordered those destos in bulk and probably relatively cheaper in purchase, install and maintenances compare to just order the original display board on the vehicles.

Thanks for the quick reply. NWFB vehicles. AFAIK, do not have those LED destons seen on CTB. All NWFB vehicles uses the flipdot ones.

Yeah! Thanks for the name! I remember going behind a garbage truck: only way opposite traffic would stop.

This Tai Tam Road is on the Dam of the Tai Tam Reservoir. It was built in the early 1900s and the planner did not planned it would have double deckers to drive along the road. That's why when the dam cannot hold two or more double deckers to drive on both ways.

No. It was built in early 1950s. This is the "new" dam. Still, the bridge is not designed for double decker buses like Guy Arab.
