I have a question regarding Dennis Tridents but particularly the 10.3m version,

If Hong Kong has a 18 year limit for busses won't the first Dennis Tridents need to be retired in 2016? Do you guys know which type will replace it.

Now the 10.3M, it will need to be retired in 2020? Is NWFB considering a single decker or the Enviro 400?

Yes, hence the Cityflyer and Long Win ones have been replaced with Enviro 500 NGs.

Probably Enviro 400s since it would be easier for ADL to use the shorter US body instead of Volvo modifying theirs.

My favorite Hong Kong bus is the 276P. It is a very convenient way to get from Yuen Long to Sheung Shui. Too bad the frequency is sometimes too low and the bus can get very busy, and queues very long.

As noted in The American Heritage Dictionary: "the word has been used as both a singular and a plural noun from Old English onward. The plural usage appears in the King James Bible as well as the works of John Dryden and Edmund Burke and is widespread in the works of respectable writers today."

The most sensible rule is the one that governs similar words designating a portion of something (fractions, percentages, and indefinite pronouns such as some, most, many, all, and more). Just as we write "some of it is" or "two-thirds of it is", we would write "none of it is"; just as write "some of them are" or "two-thirds of them are", we would write "none of them are."'

If you're being a dick when you're right, at least you have some basis for being a dick. If you're being a dick when you're wrong, you're just a dick.

Some horrible desto programming work by CityBus.
One doesn't have a destination listed, just the route number.
One has different font for the blind rolls for the alphanumeric section.

But interesting photo with the single decker on 88R

Malls’ voucher ban after mainlanders crowd buses
31 January 2015
South China Morning Post Excerpt

Complaints from residents over thousands of overloaded cross-border shoppers teaming into Tuen Mun prompt Citybus to halt ticket deal

Citybus yesterday banned shopping malls from buying transport vouchers used to entice cross-border shoppers amid concerns Tuen Mun was being overwhelmed by mainland visitors and their baggage.

The decision came hours after Ho Wai-yin, assistant commissioner of the Transport Department, told a district council member that she would “advise” the bus company to end the promotional tactic.

The free trips offered by Tuen Mun malls have sparked concern in recent months, with one pressure group estimating that 12,000 mainland shoppers arrived in just three hours on Sunday afternoon. The influx has led to long queues at the town’s bus terminal and locals struggling to make journeys.

“Prepaid tickets account for about 7 per cent of the total number of passenger,” from Tuen Mun to the Shenzhen Bay border crossing, the department said in a statement last night. “We have learned from Citybus that such tickets are no longer provided to shopping malls.”

The complimentary tickets were offered to non-locals who spent between HK$500 and HK$1,500 at tmtplaza, V City and K-Point. The standard fare is HK$11.

While the free travel has been available for about two years, the issue came to light after a video caused uproar among local residents. The footage showed a public bus driver yelling at mainlanders carrying large amounts of luggage and pushing trolleys, telling them not to treat the passenger vehicle as a truck.

Bus firms can't meet green-zone deadline
2 February 2015
South China Morning Post Excerpt

Two of the city's three main bus companies have warned that they cannot meet the deadline set in Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying's policy address when public buses which do not meet low-emissions standards will be banned from Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and Central.

New World First Bus and Citybus said they would not be ready in time to hit the end-of-year target as there was "unexpected demand" for low-emissions buses in other areas, while hold-ups in the construction of the MTR South Island Line had hampered route rationalisation plans.

A spokesman for both Citybus and NWFB added that they should be able to comply in the first quarter of 2016 by modifying the engines on some of its older buses. "Following discussions with the government, we are speeding up the installation of selective catalytic converters."

KMB has estimated that it can complete deployment of its low-emissions buses within the zones by the end-of-year deadline.

According to figures from just four months ago, out of the 5,529 buses owned by KMB, Citybus, and First Bus, only 1,705 of them - 30 per cent - met the Euro IV standards required in the low-emissions zones announced in Leung's speech last month.

With their buses accounting for about 40 per cent of the traffic volume in Central, Causeway Bay and Mong Kok, environmental officials believe that the policy would cut emissions of dangerous respirable suspended particulates and nitrogen oxides by 20 and 30 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, environmentalists say the initiative should be extended to all commercial diesel vehicles. Currently, these other pre-Euro IV vehicles are required to be retired in phases up to 2019, with cash incentives for owners.
