If you're working your ass off you aren't gonna enjoy much of anything anywhere. This is an actual metropolis not just a resort. Believe you me that you don't need much wealth to enjoy South Florida. Does a middle class or working class resident really expect a glamorous lifestyle? They expect to be at the beach everyday, after work lounge atop a trendy hotel, dine on a yacht and live amongst beautiful people in bikinis all day?!?
Your average resident enjoys plenty of the beautiful beaches, weather and sightseeing

Let me make clear of course you have families in situations you describe (work, work, work), but again this is an actual city and what city doesn have people in those situations?

From what I read online, lot of people who live in South Florida(and Florida in general) hate it.

^ really? and yet Miami still keeps growing along with Florida albiet not at the rate it used to be. Miami is so miserable they have three office towers under construction over 500 ft. in downtown Miami. What is miserable about Miami & Florida now is the economy and if I'm going to be miserable I'd rather be so in Miami than anywhere else.

Miami is growing in rates not seen in 40 years. The county and the state have slowed down but the move into the city has accelerated rapidly, especialy in the last 5 years or so.

really in an economy like today's you'd rather be in Miami? a lot of people would rather be in a city with lower unemployment rates, and a higher quality of life with affordable housing.

Remember the beaches, sun, and the sand don't pay the bills

BUT thats in a recession, any other year and Miami is all good.

My picks, ask me why if you disagree:
10.) Toledo, Ohio
9.) Tucson, Arizona
8.) Portland, Oregon
7.) Bismarck, North Dakota
6.) Riviera Beach, Florida
5.) Iowa City, Iowa
4.) Jonesboro, Arkansas
3.) Miami Gardens, Florida
2.) Plano, Texas
1.) Littleton, Colorado
I'm just curious to know why Plano? Im only interested because of the good things I've heard of the city. So what bad things have you heard/ or experienced?

yes I would and the issue is if you just moved to Miami without steady job or a good income. Quality of life is subjective anyways. I was in Miami for 3 decades so the circumstances are different for me. Otherwise if you are working for Wal Mart wages your quality of life will stink in Miami.

I could see how people are miserable in Miami, especially the rich people. Every one has to keep up with the Joneses, and stay beautiful. Its a lot of pressure. Beaches are just a way to see tons of people with much better bodies than you. Clubs just have a bunch of people with better cars than you and a hotter boyfriend/girlfriend. I would probably be stressed out in Miami, but then again, I am the jealous type.

Gary IN
E. St. Louis IL
Little Rock AR
Flint MI
Detroit MI

And almost anywhere in Rhode Island.

I'm so miserable in Miami. The horrors of the palm trees, beaches, and bikini-clad women!

Why Trenton or Newark , there Changed now nicer , safer cities unlike Camden which is Dangerous and neglected. Allentown isn't Bad either although it needs more things to see and do but it has alot Parks and is Spread out. Tacoma isn't Bad either. Bridgeport is a Bit bad , boring on Weekends , but upbeat on weekdays. Whats Wrong with the Ocean State? Have you been to any of these places , if not don't make a list judged on internet tales and rumors , its general a false fact or out dated

My point exctaly!!!! Who are these people at Forges? I was gonna say "Gay" but hell, they can even have a good time in Miami if that was the case! plenty of gays here too. But I dont know, they might be basing this on other things....but who cares about the economy, high taxes, bad traffic when at the end of the day you can go to the beach, have a cold beer or mojitos and hang on with some of those babes pictures above?!!!!

Are you speaking for yourself? Crappy place to live?? I live in Aventura (14 miles north of Miami) in a nice 2 bedroom condo overlooking the bay, oh yeah on the 20th floor. Pay is low???? I am self-employed, but I used to work for a Surgical Company before....so pay was still great then. Cost of living is high just like any other big city...piss poor education??? not sure about that, I graduated from Duke University in NC....Traffic....yeah that I give you, is bad....but I don't mind taking my Cobvertible Mercedes-Benz SRL-350 out for a ride!!! Is what you make of it....we all have a choice to move or relocate to what out pocket can afford.....and to whatever place makes us happy...South Florida (Miami) makes me happy....I am pretty sure another city will make you happy...somewhere in the midwest perhaps???

Thats great you are doing good and established but Florida is a difficult place to start out in, that is why most people come here from other states. I'm not only speaking for myself because the majority of college students I know are all pretty much planning to leave the state and go somewhere better after school is over. Then again I hear people complain about this state all the time, really Florida is great for vacation, wealthy people, or old retirees!
