Vancouver from 2008-9

Here are a few of my photos of the downtown and surrounding areas from 2008-9
Please note: The photos were all taken by me, and there is some loss of detail in the Pbase resizing.
The originals are at Pbase, (link in sig).

(About 95 Images)

In the heart of Vancouver is Robson Square (foreground), designed by Arthur Erickson, built 1979.
The original plan for this site was a 208 meter tower. The Square is now undergoing more construction and improvements.

The former courthouse (1905) is the art gallery, this is the annex (1912)

Nearby was a giant rendering of something to come

Construction downtown with the new Fairmont Hotel

Downtown Vancouver is very much a mix of old and new

The Sun Tower was the tallest in British Empire, built 1912

Hotel Vancouver is the most famous landmark, built 1939, and is 111 meters

It's on Georgia Street, the largest downtown throughfare

Skyline on a cloudy day

And from a downtown vantage point

One of the most interesting new projects is the W Building & Woodwards Project, @ 122 meters

It's supposed to revitalize the Downtown East area, which is largely historic

Old houses like this are rare downtown

The new Canada Line underground is being constructed here in the downtown

The tallest building, the Shangri-La Hotel was almost finished when I took this,
at 200 meters and 60 stories depending on how you count.

More of downtown

Publlic Library

False Creek, Seawall and area, South of downtown

This is the Olympic Village by False Creek South under construction in the summer

Downtown is just across the bridge

Farther South, the view from Q.E. Park

Obligatory Q.E. Park picture

Off to the West of downtown are more beaches and nice residential areas next to English Bay

Finally, some views of the downtown from Coal Harbour, from 2008

And a few views from just east of downtown, this area is partly industrial

Obligatory palm tree in December in Stanley Park

and sunset from Stanley park

That's all - thanks for looking

I never seem to tire of photos from Vancouver or any where in BC for that matter.

Those are amazing pics, and to think that is what the world will see when we host the 2010 Olympic Games.
