Do you believe this monument will be addition to World's great things made by people like Pyramids or Christ in Rio? Me not.

Very nice, but they should have build it on top of a mountain so it would look even taller.

Latest pics, still plugging away. Due to be completed this year.

Total hight with the base and crown is 49.5m.

The torso and arms are already built and they hope to assemble them in June, though they weigh 250 tonnes!

Basically all the bits are now sculpted, they just need to be assembled, though that's no small feat.

It really is a labor of love of a few dedicated individuals

The head was recently approaching completion:

The body:

Why is it horrible? Nobody builds "grande" anymore. How come our European ancestors did not think like this? They built big.

Times have changed. Nowadays it's not necessary to express your faith/beliefs in this way, at least not in highly developed countries. This statue screams for attention, the ideas behind it are copy/paste of similar huge structures around the world and something like that is really nothing original in a country overflowed with religious symbols.

Still plugging away, real labour of love for all involved:

The head and torso:

The base coming along:

Think they aim to have the whole thing in place by end of September more or less.

What makes Rios statue is its position, on a hilltop, overlooking the beautiful city. It is truely iconic because of the combination of site and structure.

This site looks isolated, with no real redeeming features in the surrounds.

This whole idea and project to built such a monument (copy of Jesus from Rio) is a huge crap, the same as Świątynia Świętej Opatrzności Bożej in Warsaw. Many beautiful, old churches in Poland still deteriorate and Church in Poland meet money from people for such a sick ideas. This is madness. First they repair churches we have than eventually built such a freaks.

So what? If someone wants to express his faith in such way why he shouldn't? high developed means only atheistic? It's a very unwise and direct thinking.
