Chicago downtown blog

Guys,

I think I will finally start getting this one going. I haven't really seen a blog thats extensive covering downtown. I can call it Chicago Downtown News (lame I know) but it will have development, restaurants/bars, store openings. Economy news, like office/hotel vacancy rates. It will have everything in one blog. I just haven't seen that for Chicago.

I like this one for news.

I like your idea too. but the big question is, what do you consider "downtown"?

Good luck with it as well. However, I think downtown has extensive coverage. Frankly, I often tire of the attention that 'downtown' gets while the rest of the city is bustling just as much.

I gave it some thought last night. I think it would be different.

First, I would go back to 1998. I would list projects completed. u/c, proposed or approved for the

Loop
North/Clyborn-DePaul area
Near Southside
Old Town/Cabrini Green
Ill Med District
Hyde Park/U of Chicago
River North
Kingsbury/River West
U of I/Uni Village
Pilsen/Bridgeport
Rogers Park/Loyola
Evanston
Oak Park
United Center Area/East Garfield Park
West Loop
Lincoln Park
Lincoln Square/Albany Park
Lakeview
Midway Area (hotels)
OHARE Area (hotels and expansion news)

I would include everything. Hotels, offices, institutional/cultural, sizeable residential (or signifigant) developments..

The news part would come later. But its more important to get what has been built first.

Thanks guys.
It will be very extensive so it will be awhile. I want to think of as Chicago's Wired NY version.

Good luck. Will it be more like a blog or a forum like WNY?

I think I will start wit a blog.
Sorry guys, but I will have to downtown first to capture attention and it is easier to get the info.
Neighborhoods will come though. My goal is all of them.
The blog will promote Chicago-people who haven't been here will see a different view than the "official" tourist sites. One way is to focus on the future (Central Station 3, Metropolis, Lake Meadows, South Works, Olympic Village).

Btw, how do you copy aerials from windows local live? Thats going to be big part of my presentation of the city. I want a aerial snapshot from Windows Live of all neighborhoods at some point.

You might be able to screen capture the certain image you want. That's how I do it.

If you want any help, I'd be more than willing. :]

^ THAT is definitely something I would be enthusiastic to see. There is a lot of focus on Chicago's gloried past and old architectural glory, with a rather disdainful characterization (not all of which is misguided) of everything new that's going up.

I'm hopeful to see a bit more of an optimistic anticipation of changes that are to come as neighborhoods evolve over the next 10-20 yrs

It could be awesome. What I could do is take the aerial pics from Windows local live, and highlight where future development would occur in the next 10 years or so.

I have talked to some friends to give me updates on restaurants openings/closing in their neighborhoods as well. This city is too big to not get any help.
