M8 in Glasgow. Half finished lump of brutalist concrete roaring through a historic city centre. But it's got more going on in its 5 mile downtown stretch than all of the rural motorways combined.

Also M25 at Heathrow airport, the widest stretch of 'true' motorway we've got, and every time it's widended, it needs to be widened again! Terminal 5 brings yet more congestion here.

And for those in the UK who go to Cornwall on holiday, you've surely taken the M5 and then the A38 Devon Expressway. The cornish scenery here is amazing, and the Tamar crossing is cool as well. Unless you're a boring sod and use the A30 instead.

You've got to be kidding me What was so beautiful about that road? I have driven the 395 all the way from Los Angeles (I-15 to be techically correct) to the Canada border. Not at one time, of course. I should say that the whole stretch of the US-395 in Washington state sucks

As far as the natural surroundings and the technical features (bridges, tunnels) are concerned, I like the following:

Austria: A9, A10, A13
Greece: A2
Italy: A14, A22
Switzerland: A2

I also like the British A38(M) for its unique construction feature - no central reservation and that time controlled lane flow thing.

Two impressive roads I've driven on must be the A-31 in Spain between Almansa and Alicante, and especially the descent towards Alicante. Also the A-45 between Antequera and Malaga is a fun drive.

The E4 in Sweden around Gränna is another real beauty.

I didn't have my atlas when I posted, but looking at it now I'm sure it was the A8 between Luzern and Bern, around Interlaken. It was a long time ago (1991) and the atlas shows it as 2-lane road, so I was thinking maybe my recollection of it having two levels was wrong. But I pulled out my 1990 Switzerland map from the trip, and it shows the road as a motorway! Odd, since both are Michelin.

Yeah, that one's nice. The A8 is a motorway only by the interchange with A6 (2 km) and by Interlaken (with 100-km/h speed limit), the rest is 2-laned. Being reserved for motor vehicles, it's interesting that it has no alternative road between Brienz and Iseltwald.

I haven't driven outside of Australia
So these are the most impressive motorways on which I've either driven or been a passenger:

Motorway scenery: I-80, California, USA
Motorway aesthetics: East Coast Parkway, Singapore
Motorway road quality: Princes Fwy, Melbourne-Geelong, Australia

I want to drive that road sometime, it looks like a nice drive. Nice and wide, too, unlike most of Sydney's freeways.

You can drive all the way around the Brienzersee

It's worth the trip though, nice scenery along the other side of the lake.

I haven't actually driven on it, but taken numerous taxi rides during the time I've been a resident of Shanghai.

The stretch of road I'd most love to drive on or even be a passenger for is the I-95 Big Dig system through central Boston. Second to that is the Houston freeway network. A close 3rd is the Moscow Garden Ring.
