By the way the design reminds me a bit of the new terminal in Malaga:

@ timo9: regardless of aesthetics - how is the Frankfurt airport design reflecting any historical aspects of the city? Plus, how is an organically grown airport layout (that is pretty inconvenient in many cases) comparable to a newly built airport?

I hate the design of the control tower.
The worst and most ugly I have ever seen...

^ Then be prepared to see it on quite a few other german airports, as this is the current standard design of german airport towers:

Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hannover, Leipzig/Halle, Nuremberg, Dresden

A reason to avoid visiting Germany. The architect of this tower should be jailed along those who decided to built it.

If the airport towers are actually a reason for you to avoid visiting Germany, then so be it. The towers are not built to satisfy anyone's phallistic wet desires but to offer the best possible working conditions while being very cost-efficient.

- It seems Lufthansa is now more intereseted in BER then before (maybe in fear of a futurity OneWorld-Hub)
- Test-operations of the Airport starts in November (about 2 Weeks with ~6000 volunteers)
- And the endless discussion about the air routes...

In fact it's not completely new but it hasn't been published here yet: aerial view of BER by night.

Can anybody tell me if there is going to be a fast direct and preferably ICE train between Leipzig Hbf and BBI sometime in the near future?

In the near future - def. not!
At the openining-seasion 2012 you have to take the ICE from Leipzig to Berlin-Südkreuz (about 1h) an then change to the Airport-Express (about 20 min)

Here again, the chart of the whole railway-traffic to BER 2012:

Greetings...

Is this all being built at once?

No - the picture is nice, but a far view in the future.
(with a couple of mistakes: the 747 is to big for the north- and south-pier and there a some missing taxiways and buildings in the background)

This should be the most realistic visualization of the Airport at the great opening in june 2012:

Great map, berlin apron how long did it takes you to draw it?

Even though BER's tower isn't a beauty it at least looks quite presentable at night:

DFS (company in charge of air traffic control for Germany) has built nearly the same bullshit at Frankfurt Airport. It's called DISCO TOWER by DFS staff as of it's illumination.

...A couple of hours ^-^

______

But in fact it's a big suprise, that this ugly "thing" named tower can be such a "highlight" for the Airport.

Einfach wunderbar.

Well guys, it's quite off-topic but i think the main problem of the airports in brazil is that most of them are owned and operated by the government.Passing them into private hands would rush the slow expansion i guess.

Yes, actually the current president has already mentioned that she wants to transform INFRAERO (the airports owner) into a private-public company, just like Petrobras. An interesting idea you know.
