The descision to switch the operations within one night is full of risks (see Hongkong or Heathrow T5) - but that's the reason for the half-year testing-period (starting in november).

Berlin Aiports just released the latest figures for the year (YTD September 2011): so far, over 18m pax, which equates to an increase of 8.5% compared to last year.

yes, thrice weekly. And AB's frequency to New York will also be increased to daily flights!

Any bets for the next long-haul announcement, now that the final legal hurdle (regarding hours of operation, incl. night flights ruling) is out of the way? .... my best guess is a new destination in India (Mumbai?) and Malaysia (KL).

Air Berlin does not really have open aircraft capacity unless they cut touristic longhoul routes!

yes, sorry, I didn't mean necessarily Air Berlin. I meant new route announcements in general!

The illumination is amazing. I thought the airport architecture was a bit bland and simple at first, but this is definitely a nice surprise.

Truly a world class airport when you see those last updates. Only thing I hate is the german design for control towers...

Yep, looks great illuminated!

And yes, control tower design is mandated by DFS (German Air Traffic Control) to keep the costs down - nothing BER or other German airport operators can do about it, unfortunately.

Huge increase in Lufthansa destinations from BER in 2012.
Go to LH or website of Berlin airports and read about it.

http://www.berlin-airport.de/DE/Pres..._Lufthansa.asa

http://presse.lufthansa.com/fileadmi...z-2012-BER.pdf

AB will get their feet warm.
