Right, and with Lufthansa now focusing on non-business pax at BER they all going to play in the same league.
It will def be a tough competition.

For tourists this is very good cause they can expect very low prices.
A typical LH flight from an EU city to BER will be +-100€

Seems awfuly unfinished to be opening on June 3rd. They have a lot of work left to do. The interior is very unfinished still.

Well, you obviously have never seen what new shops in shopping centres or in your city's highstreet look like a week from opening: like total chaos! And yet, they get it done! Shop fittings etc don't take long to set up, so don't worry - it's gonna be alright! 5,000 construction workers are currently on site to put the finishing touches together.

I actually even assume that the BER airport with its core functions, tower control, baggage distribution and check-in procedures could already operate in April without any inconvenience....

There is a pdf online that gives a good overview of the airport terminal and levels.

I'm sure you're right. I trust it will all be done in time. I was just surprised to see those bare concrete interiors just 2 months prior to opening all those shops and restaraunts! I'm unfamiliar with construction timetables, but maybe that's normal.

For me the airport looks pretty much finished. Screens, luggage belts, control tower, lightening etc are all functional already. What is left is cleaning, some covers here and there and removal of construction equipment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was talking about these pics:

They say that they are new pics and are dated 21st of March, 2012. Those pics of the Marktplatz (where all the shops and restaurants will be) look like bare concrete to me. That is hardly a simple dust off and it's ready. Look at the first two pics in the group. That doesn't look "pretty much finished" to me.

From a TV report I saw a few days ago the passenger areas looked pretty much finished (except shops, restaurants etc).
But the areas for the staff and other background things are still under construction. Seems like they put all the effort in the passenger areas.

In the restaurants' list I don't see the famous es-S-Bahn!

Are they going to close?

Talking about vending machines I would add also machines for batteries and pocket tissues!

These are the interiors of shops and restaurants which are usually outfitted by their own specific needs. In the documentation that has been posted in the message above it has been stated as well that the shop and restaurant interiors and climate and energy requirements are very specific, some had to be changed already a few times because of changing requests by the owners. Ever been to a shopping center four weeks before opening? There is almost nothing.

Just like hmueller2 said, what's important is that the main passenger areas required for passenger processing are almost finished and can be tested thoroughly. They have even started to install the big pieces of art in these areas already.

@Fabri88: yes, from what is known right now, they will close and most likely move to another location

What do you mean with "es-S-Bahn"? I don´t know it, and I´m from Berlin...
