you´re from berlin and you don´t know the "es-S-Bahn" ? it´s an old s-bahn train, transformed into a fast-food-restaurant...it´s located next to the current schönefeld airport:

Ok. No, I've never been in a shopping center before it opens. I only go to open shopping centers. I'm sure it will be ready. I'm excited to see it.

Speaking of this, will they still be installing that huge red "magic carpet" sculpture hanging from the ceiling in the main terminal that was talked about as a possibility many months ago??

Yes, the red "magic carpet" sculpture will be (or is already) installed.

Installation of the carpet commenced a few days ago! It'll be a few more days if not weeks before we will see pics of the completed artwork.

That´s famous? Not for me, cause i´m not a tourist.

"Dit seh ich an jeder Ecke. Und für ´ne Currywurst geh ich zu Konopke, Witty´s oder Curry 36."

By the way, a famous "Currywurstbude" will open in the airport: Witty´s!

Why was it decided the word "International" would not be part of the airport's name? They thought that was stating the obvious? I like the word to be included in an airport's name, but it doesn't matter really. It's not like this fantastic airport will have anything to prove. Just curious.

yeah not sure - the German airports don't really do that, do they? FRA might be known as Frankfurt International abroad, but I don't even know if that's the name the airport authority uses.

And then again, you look at AMS, LHR, CDG etc etc and none of these have the addition of 'International' do they?

Could be more in places where they historically have/had separate terminals in place (like Sydney Domestic and Sydney International)?

As for BER, I think you are right, it's not necessary - which bigger airports these days are not offering 'International' flights?

I think "real" airport names and synonyms are always two very different animals.
No one use to say "Flughafen München Franz Josef Strauß" or "Flughafen Berlin-Tegel Otto Lilienthal"
And except for Berlin (well not anymore) German cities and metropolitan areas usually have just one (commercial) airport. So when you just say "Flughafen München" oder "Munich airport" everyone knows which airport you mean.

In Berlins case Germans use to say just "Tegel" oder "Schönefeld".
Like: "I am going to flight to Tegel tomorrow" or "Tegel is a nice airport"
It will be interesting to see which name Berliners, Germans and non-Germans will give to Berlins new aiport.
Recently you hear people say "BER" , but german pronounced "Beh-Eh-Err"
(like when you say LAX)

Some really nice impressions, thanks for sharing!

I absolutely love the new airport. This will be considered a modern classic among all the international monstrosities pretty soon I think.
