No news from Berlin surprises me. For the rest of Germany Berlin is just unable to manage anything except the Loveparade or things like the Fanmile.

^ Stop trolling.

It'd be a shame if BER wouldn't operate from August on, since I already booked my flights there.

This delay isn't bad management. Quite the contrary. When an ambitious time frame can't be met it is a sign of good management to delay the opening to get things right instead of muddling through with unfinished facilities.

I'm so pissed I've already booked a flight to the new airport from New York on June 5th! Argh! Super dissappointing.

Twisted reasoning. They can't deliver a project on-time, without any unforeseen cause to blame like earthquake or else.

Postponing the opening date only adds insult to the injury IMO. They should have either:

(a) not set up an unrealistic opening day first place

(b) spend extra money and throw more resources to allow it opening as scheduled no matter what, provided safety was not at risk.

They just chickened out and let down the travel public and, more important I think, the electorate concerned, which will have less faith when some agency or ministry comes with a "project x will take y years to complete"...

Major PR disaster and a big shame.

Safety is the problem here.

The airport is completely finished to start operation in June. The only thing that is missing is the certification of the fire safety installations. More tests are needed to get this certification, those test take time and cannot be finished before the initial opening date in June.

If the tests took longer then expected it was just bad luck, if they started the tests to late it was bad management.

Disappointing as I am going to be there in late June. However it isnt the catastrophe some of you are making it out to be. In a year from now nobody will care that the airport opened two months late.

I just cancelled a dirty-cheap ticket to Berlin on early July and will drive instead. The only reason I was flying instead of driving was the new airport

What will happen to the new routes that were coinciding with the opening of the airport (such as Leeds and Manchester)?

@ Irish Blood English Heart: the new routes will be handled at the airport that handles the respective airlines' current routes, in this case SXF.

As if it was so hard to find an interpreter.
